I have just completed a recovery mission to claim GC Green that I have been "storing" at AutoZones along the I-81/I-40 corridor. I recovered 76 bottles - or so I thought. Two of the bottles looked very much like GC Green, but they were not! They were pre green, but post yellow-lable. From another thread, it sounds like others have seen these wiley bottles. In the process of weeding out these imposters, I stumbled onto the lable code. I thought I would share.
The code is found adjacent to the barcode. It reads LBL 068X were X is a letter denoting chronology or history of the lable. The following is what I have gathered so far.
LBL 068A is not known to me.
LBL 068B is the yellow lable pre-GC. This bottle is pictured on the FAQ. It is GF-2 certified.
LBL 068C is not know to me. I assume that it is GF-3 certified.
LBL 068D is pre-GC with a GC-like bottle (not the yellow bottle). The back is nearly identical to GC except there donut has "energy conserving" and does not have CF rating. In addition, the only other certifications are GF-3 and ACEA: A1-98. The front of the bottle has the "protects in ways other oils can't", but also has the "starburst". Also, the lot number is in black ink. The infiltrating bottles were of this type and are from lot number M022606XXX.
LBL 068E is the first GC Green bottle. On the front it has the "protects like..." language. On the back, the donut is smaller, has not energy conserving language and has added CF certification. Other certifications include ACEA: A3/B3 B4-98, VW 502.00, 505.00, 503.1, BMW LongLife-01, MB229.1 and MB229.3. "Made in germany is below the Castrol Logo. The only lot number that I own includes M023386XXX.
LBL 068F and G have not been sighted by me!
LBL 068H has on the front the "Out Performs..." language. On the back, the donut is larger. "Made in Germany" is now below the donut. The lot numbers that I own under this label are M030426XXX and M033246XXX.
LBL 068I has the BP logo added to the back. I have found both GC green and gold under this lable. The Green lot numbers that I own under this lable are between M040236XXX and M050106XXX.
LBL 068J adds the "European Formula" to the front of the bottle. The back of the bottle adds MB229.5 and catalyst compatibility language. The "Made in Germany" moves again. This lable places it more central between the logo and the bar code.
If anyone wants to add this info to the FAQ, please feel free. If anyone can added info on the missing label numbers, I would appreciate your effort. Lastly, for those that cannot gather information from the written word, I will try to get jpgs for the various bottles. If anyone can beat me to it, I would appreciate your efforts also.
