Just bought a commercial excel 275 72in zero turn looking for best oil has 1000 hours. I know sae 30 is the norm i have rotella and mobil 0w40 on hand any reason not to use it? Could i just use 5w30 synthetic?
If you are only using it to mow grass and not plow snow, there are a couple that are good.
Motorcraft Super Duty 15W40
Rotella T5 15W40
Oil burner? 20W50
I was using 10W30 (either Mobil 1 or Super Tech HM). I put Farm & Fleet HDEO 5w40 in my LT150 Kohler this season. I used it in the winter to blow snow and figure it would work good in the summer as well. So far so good...
I run Mobil 1 5W/30 in my BadBoy Zero turn with fine results. I would not deviate from the recommended viscosity by running 15w/40 etc. 5w/30 or 10w/30 synthetic is ideal.
Which K Series engine? I tend use 15w40 in them with good results. Most of them burn a little oil, the 15w40 will not burn off as quickly as a 5w30 might. You can still run 5w30 and be perfectly fine, just keep an eye on the oil level.

I have a 24 horse Kohler that currently has Delvac 1300 in it and seems to like it. I typically use whatever I have 2 1/2 qts of thats over a 5W30. Anecdotally, it hasnt blown up yet.
