My wife has a 2000 Windstar LTD. Motor clattered bad for 50k. Took it in for a suspension issue, their "free 50 point check" showed a blown motor. They replaced it with a rebuild and a 30k warranty. Tech reciept shows motorcraft 0w30 oil and MC filter. New motor clatters under load, OR with AC on etc.

Used two tanks of Neutra, started using Shell 93. Today replaced oil with Chevron supreme 5w30 and a Baldwin filter. Clatter is actually louder and the 210hp motor seems to have lost its pickup. Any ideas? New motor was bad? Crappy gas? Oil too "heavy?" Really, the most worrysome is the clatter. Sounds the same as the last "blown" engine. Thanks... //AG

I would get rid of it.

I know one retired guy who had nothing but engine probelms with his Windstar. When his 2000 had an engine problem in S.Dakota on a trip he traded it for a new 2003. His engine went too. He is a die hard Ford man but I asked him how the new van was/ He just shook his head and said, indicating displeasure.

Your rebuilt motor sounds like it's bad. Is it a Ford reman. engine or an independent rebuilt motor. You still have a warranty on it so bring it back to them and have them confirm what's wrong. and don't take "it's normal" for an answer. If this was done by a Ford dealer demand to drive another Windstar on their lot and listen to how it sounds. Motorcraft does not have a 0w30 oil as far as I know. It must have been 10w30. Good luck.

Getting rid of it isn't an option at this time. Unfortunately, we are not even half finished with the payments yet.

As far as the oil. I have no way to tell for certain. However, on the sheet they give you that lists all the parts etc. It says "4.2 qts Motorcraft supreme motor oil 0w30." I am looking at it right now. Maybe they use another brand, or bulk and just invoice it as MC? I dunno.

Sound advice though. We will return it to them. Problem is, this dealer has got to be the worst!!!!! I could write a book about our experiences with these morons. Have no choice though. Another dealer can't do warranty work on another shops job, (they tell me.)

You need to go over the dealers head on this one. I would call Ford Customer service up in Dearborn tomorrow morning and complain. Be nice but explain what has been happening with the dealer.
My sister had a problem with her Turbo Capri when ever anyone would sit in the back seat there would be a loud rubbing sound. Dealer said there was nothing wrong and it was in her mind. She called up to customer service and talked to the VP in charge. Two hours later the service manager from the dealer called her and asked when she could bring the car in. They all of a sudden were concerned and amazingly found that the body was rubbing on one of the rear brake lines within ten minutes. The four times she had taken the car in, before there was nothing to be found. The more you B*tch the sooner the problem will be solved.

Id like to know what was so 'blown' about the motor....if it ran, it was not 'blown', mebbe a little noisy in the bearing area....mebbe it had a bad bearing in the water pump or alternator....
