My employer sometimes dollar matches staff donations made through payroll...been caught out before donating early, and having an argument).

(600 of us in total, and $30k went to the QLD floods)

After watching the destruction on the news it almost felt surreal. Like watching the worst disaster movie ever but realizing this is real. My prayers go out to everyone there. I cannot fathom what those poor people are going through.

It is.

Man can't control everything. But a failsafe quad redundant cooling system which can withstand a 10.0 can be designed. Even if it takes a manual reconnect after the big one.....

It has been completely unreal :-( The footage of the destruction is nothing like I have ever seen even in a movie. I am not a superstitious person the amount of disasters experienced by the world in recent years seems to be abnormally high. One my distant cousin and his family has made their home in Tokyo. Fortunately, Tokyo has been spared from what I can gather.

It's funny how Thailand had over 100,000 deaths and no one really cared when they had a Tsunami...Japan only has 10,000 so far and the whole world is in sympathy. It must've been their nice cars.

No one really cared????

Compared to the support and deaths they're getting Japan, it makes it look like no one really cared about Thailand. It seemed like no one cared when Chile had a Earthquake. Humans are idiots. If Chileans and Thai people made nice cars or something, they would have gotten more help.....dumb humans..

That's because you've got a heart and realize that all countries, rich or poor, have human lives in trouble. Most people don't care about other countries unless they have cool animation, awesome cars, big industries etc... Anyways, I've donated money to Africa, Thailand, Haiti, Chile, and Japan.

You can call me a poor, blue-collar philanthropist.

I know there is at least one member on here from Japan. Hope all is well with him. Another board im on, SVTPerformance accounted for their 2 members in Japan with Terminators.

I don't know about you but I cared about the Thailand, Haiti, and China earth quake just as much as Japan. The coverage is higher at the moment because they still haven't figure out how to begin the search and rescue, and the nuclear reactors problem they are dealing with.

Which Tsunami? The one in 2004 in Thailand caused death 5,395 people and missing 2871 people. Half of that figures were foreigners who spent time on the beaches.

Natural disasters are forces all Humans have no control over...called the planet Earth. Also there is something to learn from the Japanese as there is no report of violence and looting. It's a credit to their society unlike many other areas around the globe.

Actually, Japanese newspapers rarely report such things like looting. I guarantee that there were looting and crime going on. When Japanese newspapers actually write an article about something bad in Japan, they usually compare it to other countries so it doesn't make them feel a sense of inferiority. In other words, their newspapers are very biased.

If America wrote newspaper/news articles like Japan, more people would love America.

I agree with this observation, until there is report about looting I assume that no crime was committed.

I don't agree with this, until there is evidence that a crime had been committed, they should be viewed as innocent.

Where's the evidence that there were no looting or crime?

Remember during hurricane Katrina, when Black people stole, it was considered "looting" and when Caucasians stole, it was considered "taking"? Yep, the media in any country is junk. The Japanese media are good at hiding news...and the US media is good at lying.
