I'm sticking with craig's list for local crap

I like their rideshare listing. Was offering rides between SF and LA for $50 round trip per person. Got to visit GF for free plus getting paid. Now that my GF is back in the city, I carpool to work the same way everyday.

seems like craigslist is inhabited by a bunch of cheap skates.

i tried to sell a car on craigs list once. all i got were droves of poor people offering 50% of my asking price. a bunch of those people even wanted to know if i would take a down payment on it. now im talkin about a $1200 car here. this isnt something you normally need to make a down payment on.
so i put it on ebay with a starting bid of $1200. it ended up selling for $1675.

i also tried selling my old dirtbike on craigs list. had it on there for a grand even. again, droves of people offered $500, $300, etc.

put the bike on ebay and sold it for $990 and the guy gave me all $50 dollar bills, and 2 $20's.

i havent found a place to sell things yet thats better than ebay. you can sell ANYTHING on ebay.

i just got one today that looks like this.

now i cant show the pictures and such because i just did a simple copy and paste job, but its incredibly authentic, although the link going to ebay isnt authentic. i first thought, gee id love to be a power seller. after 235 positives youd think i should be there by now. but the link goes off so some other website that looks just like ebay.

Just went on to Craig's List and found this ad:

VCR - Includes swallowed tape. Free.

Think I'll stick with ebay, but Craigslist may be good for dumping unwanted junk.

ebay wants to know about those:

Report Suspicious Email to eBay

If you have received an email requesting your account information and you suspect it was not sent by eBay, forward the entire message to [email protected]

I'm one of those cheapskates.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes people just want something gone and other times they want blue book retail.

For the price, free, it's worth tapping out a paragraph description even if you plan on advertising via other means. Around here CL isn't that "hip" yet with the older crowd so there isn't much seller competition when I go to sell a $1000 car. But the college kids who would buy my stuff are into it.

All about your region I guess.

Also there are some real nut jobs. One guy wanted to trade a portable GPS and radar detector for a running, inspected car. Smelled something hot there. Listing something usually brings several Nigerian Scam type emails. Then there are the (allegedly) pitiful people who've got the sob story and want to rent/buy property for way below market rate.

notice the words "crap", "cheap", "local" in my original post?

I don't think I'd try to sell business or prize items on craigslist. But it's best to avoid the Paypal and Ebay fees when possible (for stuff that probably wouldn't even sell on ebay) for local stuff,

I'm talking dead Sony TV, Couch, futon, dresser, rocking chair.........sometimes ebay SUCKS. Especially when THEY make a mistake.

I've gotten so much eBay and PayPal spoof in the past couple of weeks that I have [email protected] listed in my address book!

Lately, spoofers have been luring people with promises of free gifts ..... "Our way of say thanks for being such a good eBay patron"

Spoof emails are simple... never go to a website from an email. If the email doesn't at least have your name.... delete it. I have yet to see a spoof email with my name in it.

I checked out the one in Pittsburgh and was howling when I came across this ad.

Submissive Spankee - 40

I am a 40s something submissive who is looking for the right Dominant man to help me explore. I am NOT into real pain, humiliation, or extreme play. I am an erotic submissive looking for a strong, respectful, caring erotic Dom. I most enjoy long, light, playful, sensuous spankings.

I remember one spoof PayPal email that I clicked and backed out of the url and found myself in some Methodist Charity in China. It had all the look of a legit charity.

The last one just had the routing number and not a URL. They're getting very good at the graphics and links. I always send them to spoofs. I wonder if they really try and shut down the offending server ..or even if they can if it's foreign

Pablo your probably close on the weight but I would love to be a fly on the wall to see what kind of guys respond to her ad. In a way I feel sorry for her. There is nothing like leaving yourself open to some nut case.

As far as Ebay and Paypal go I don't get much of the garbage. What is really alarming is the ones I get from the large Credit card company's. I've seen Citi Bank and Capital One spoof's in the last few months. The problem is I don't have either of their cards. Those are the scary ones because you know there are a lot of people out there that are not that up to speed on the internet scams and think nothing of filling out the forms. I have had SBC spoofs telling me my CC was about to expire. They needed my new credit card number or they would be shutting off my internet in two weeks. Can you say delete?
