But that's not fun at all!

I don't currently use GTX but did in one of my older cars and didn't have problems using it.

I know nothing of how it performed in my engine other than all the oils I used previously didn't go jet black as GTX did during the same interval. While that really gives no indication on oil performance I have to admit that GTX was the single most worst smelling oil after draining I have smelled in my entire life. Since I somewhat enjoy changing my oil I physically couldn't do it again for fear of vomiting during the procedure.

GTX is no worse than store brand. Nothing special either.

Oils can darken for many reasons being dirty isnt really a main cause imo.

I dont particularly like castrol GTX.. I think the last time i used it was 20w50 in a john deere 318.

GTX looks great in every UOA i've seen here, not that i have seen every single UOA.

Used GTX on and off for years...never had a problem.

The only 'bad' Castrol GTX experiences I've ever read about that stick in my mind are Pablo's experience with it sludging up his Datsun 510 in the 1970's; and another member who has shared that the 1960's 'GTX with tungsten' would sludge up in engines.

But, note that these are both experiences with 1960's and 1970's oils...a lot of oils sludged up back then!

I used it for 10 years when it was affordable. It was (and is) a good oil. Now that it is less affordable and not a good deal anymore, I use other brands of oil.

My oil turns dark, think it started at around 60k, after 500 miles from the new oci and can have many reason for it to do so. As someone pointed out trapping dirt or what how you, the metal of the engine (steel, iron, Aluminium) and each type effects the oil.

Castrol GTX is good oil.

I used GTX in my Corvette track car for about 10 years, and in the '88 Suburban I used to tow it with for about 5 years. Never had a problem with it. Castrol makes good oil, but they are more expensive than others you can buy that are just as good or better. Mostly I stopped using Castrol because of their poor product data sheets that don't convey much product data, and their advertising, which seems to be written for seventh-graders.

But I do have one oil changes' worth of GC in my stash. I've been itching to try it in my Camaro.

I used it exclusively for decades, never a problem. I will say Castrol has run very quietly in every vehicle I've ever put it in, I can't say that for the other big names.

I rarely use it any more, being here had a lot to do with it, I lean way more towards SOPUS stuff now a days although my favorite syns are still Castrol's.

Here is one with very low TBN after a short run in a Ford 5.4, very alarming

That doesn't mean you can't find a good UOA for Castrol but you asked. The problem is most people don't uoa a budget lube.

That would go along with my experience in the late 80s (although formulation has almost certainly changed since then). When using castrol I would notice a drop in mpg and power after only 2-3000 miles. Power reduction was easy to notice in a 95 hp stock engine, as at the time I was traveling the same highway route through the mountains of Western MD and WV for 300 miles each way at least once a month. An oil change with no other modifications would return the power and mpg. Once I switched to VWB, oil lasted much longer.

You won't get me to say anything bad about GTX. Put 469,000 miles on a 5.0-liter F150 that had mostly GTX in it. If I knew I was going to be pulling a boat on a long haul, I'd throw in a quart or two of Castrol synthetic 5w-50, but most of the time it had straight GTX 20w-50. Of course, I live on the Gulf Coast so I didn't have to worry about cold starts.

Oh wow! You pulled up information that is on a UOA that the user did during a Auto-Rx cleaning cycle and after some intrusive repairs, coolant leak, and rarely driven.

Then you pulled a UOA that is over a decade old on a truck that was driven primarily on short trips that rarely allowed the oil temperature to reach normal designed operating temperature.

Talk about cherry picking some of the worst possible scenarios to show that a PCMO looks bad.

I kinda think gtx sucks too. Not that its a bad oil, but other premium brands are making huge gains in terms of better product but gtx just seems to stay they same....pretty much.
Id rather have pyb or qsgb
