I tried the Sylvania Silverstars. They were brighter than the stock bulbs... For a little while. After I went through two sets in a little over a year, I finally realized these are not worth the short life. So I went with the Xtravisions, and tonight was the first time I got to see them in the dark. I daresay the night visibility is just as good as the Silverstars, either that or they were already fading before I lost another one.

Now I feel a little silly for having bought two sets and falling for the blue tint gimmick. I finally see (no pun intended) why they get a bad rap. Big bucks for bulbs that appear whiter but only last for about 6 months. I was "blinded by the light".

Yea...no idea. I have the Wagner equivalents on my 88 Aries...I believe, of the "XtraVisions" - they seem definitely brighter than the stock H6054s.....but as you mentioned, any "brand new" bulb is going to be brighter than one that's sat in the weather for 2+ years

And the Wagner's are still going strong.....though they were about 15-20$ per bulb.....they're the huge H6054s :P Only could find them at a parts supplier called "Bumper to Bumper" which I think may be a part/family of O'Reilly....

But yea, they're still going strong

When these do die(knock on wood)...I'll probably go back to standard halogen though....I could see spending the money for a pickup that does off-roading, etc.....but I'm only driving this as a commuter

He he, well, you learned something. My buddy did the same thing you did, paying almost $70 for a set of bulbs only to have them last a few months. He switched to the Xtravisions at less than $20 for the set, and they've been there for over a couple years already.

Good job, xtra visions are good bulbs, i believe theyre usually made in germany also.... i was once a fool to buy about 3 pairs of silverstars , and then thinking the ultras would last longer....yeah right

Physics dictate that tinted bulbs are always giving to be less efficient than non-tinted bulb. Unfortunately neither physics nor statistics comes in to play when consumer decisions are being made.

I installed SilverStar Ultras over 3 1/2 years ago and they are still running strong. I tried various OEM and Philips bulbs, but in my application the SilverStars work best. (9007 Headlamps and 9145/H10 fog lamps.)

I am getting higher light output over the Philips and OEM bulbs. (Measured with a photometer from drivers eye point and ft. lamberts reflectivity off of the road surface.)

Maybe I am the exception - but it works for me.

Or even common sense in many cases.
