Today i decided to go into autozone and try to take advantage of the free after rebate STP filter. I looked it up and it said the s6607 is the right filter for my car. I took the filter out and looked at it and it looked really, really small. I bought it anyways and when I got home I measured it and it came in at a little under 2.5 inches. Then I measured the Pureone that I had and it measured 3.5 inches. What an incredible difference. Will the small size of the filter affect anything? And what are you guys opinion on STP, beside that they are similar to Supertech?

Also on the sidenote, I thought I would also get a Valucraft while I was there (which i know is also a Champion filter) but there wasn't any on the shelf so I asked one of the clerks and he tried to look it up but needed another person's help. They asked for the year and model of my car. I told them and the person helping the clerk murmured under his breath to the clerk that if you're going to spend thousands on a car why try to save a dollar on a filter. I wanted to say something back to him but i decided no to. Even if you knew that the filters were cheap and poor you shouldn't say something that rude in a customer's face.

What was the # on the Pureone? It seems to me that Purolater specifies a relatively "oversize" filter for some Hondas and ??
Sounds to me like you're comparing apples to oranges though.

I use the same size filter and the valucraft and stp are very small compared to the pureones and even the AA total grip. If you drive a civic, then i think that the stp 2808 might be a bigger filter. I just dont feel comfortable using the stp or valucraft because of thier size compared to other filters in thier price range. Btw, the stp is 4.00 compared to the pureone which is 4.88 or the AA total grip which is 2.48

the Pureone # is 14610 and that is what is specified for my car. It is also about the same size as the OEM filter. And the comparable ST is 7317 which is about the same size as the purolator.

If you go to the Wix site,
The PL14610 returns a Wix 51356
The s6607 returns a Wix 51365
Nearly 1" difference in length.
Apparently, STP is just subbing the tiny Honda filter for the less tiny Honda filter instead of carrying both #'s.

BTW, the STP website doesn't even mention filters!

Were they Ecores? The Ecores eliminate some of the wasted space needed for the bypass. Also, some small filters pack the media tighter. I keep wishing somebody that knows would comment on the possibility that the newer, smaller filters use a better media.

I don't like AZ either, but AAP is a poor excuse compared to Parts america they bought out.

Would have called him on it and asked him to explain how a $2 valucraft is not better that a $4 Fram. To many stupid snot monkeys working behind the counter nowadays.

I worked at an Autozone for a while as a second job. Don't knock the employees, they only know what they are taught. Do you think they will work extra hard to learn more about the parts when they are only being paid $7/hr? When I worked there if they had any question about oil and filters I was the one asked. I also provided information from this site for the workers, some wanted more some could care less.

The Honda's use the same part #'s as my Hyundai (actually I have a Sonata and a Honda Odyssey). the 2808 part is the one that most closely resembles a Honda OEM filter for STP and Valucraft. As far as the Purolators, the one you would want is L14459 or PL14459. As far as the Fram numbering system (and anyone who uses it, such as SuperTech) the number is 3593A. The 6607 numbers are the new numbers specified for late model Honda's and Hyundai's, but they are way too small, as you pointed out.

I would recommend a Hyundai filter for your Honda, since they are interchangeable. They cost $5, and they are much better construction than the Fram built Honda filter. They appear to be better built than the Wix or Purolators that I have cut open as well. I am currently using the Hyundai filter on both my Hyundai and Honda.

A lot of it is attitude. I've worked at some "2nd rate" jobs, but I still tried to do a good job and learn the skills and/or products even if it didn't appeal to me.
Of course, I come from a different era and am old enough to be "Grandpa" to some of the posters!

It doesn't matter -why- they don't know anything, what matters is that they don't know anything.

The end result is the same, poor service and misinformation.
