How long the corolla 4AFE will last?

Cars like wifes - probably better to stay with the one you know than roll the dice on another.

my wife owned this exact car when we met in 98. 97 corolla 1.6 /3spd. auto. it also had air cond. and a radio with 2 speakers. no airbags. the differential was replaced twice under warranty and it still made strange whines. it drove like a third world taxicab. I hated it.

we did an even trade on a 95 accord with high miles and lived happily ever after.

That buzzy 3 speed automatic is the biggest curse on these cars. How they could hobble an "economy" car with such a low final drive is ridiculous.

As that transmission is all mechanical in nature, swapping to a proper manual transmission shouldn't be a computer nightmare. Of course if you have to pay someone to do it you may as well trade cars.

I'd never even consider one of these cars with a 4 speed auto, let alone a 3 speed. With a 5 speed manual and a 2300 lb curb weight, they do just fine; almost, ALMOST peppy

we had an 89 corrola with the 4af engine non fuel injected my dads gf bought car new changed oil 3 times in 100000 miles first tuneup at 135000 origanil clutch transmission alternator water pump t belt ran great at 270000 miles finally donated it best car i ever seen only problem was the exhaust every year rotted out
