How come they don't teach kids how to roll up hoses in school?

I think that should be added to PE classes or something. Do you know how frustrating it is to go to 50 houses a week and 25 of them need a garden hose rolled up? Or don't even have a hose rack?

Along those lines you'd be amazed at what even the "smartest kids" cant do.

I've had 2 interns from USC that needed 3 tries to take a bunch of receipts - and fill out an expense report with them.

.When we were kids we would have a sleep over in a friends really cool tree house fort and late at night sneak out and move peoples hoses from one house to the next. Being humble we were l as slick as Navy Seals

Heck, they don't even teach them to sign their names or read an analog clock anymore, and you want hose rolling on the agenda!

Give me a ******* break ! Teach that in school ? FWIW, I taught my kids how to coil up hoses (garden, air compressor) and extension hoses.

That brings back high-school memories of those boring back-to-back double periods of hose-rolling.

Back then I couldn't see the importance of them, but I sure thank my lucky stars now.

You mean like coiling it right? I've been doing that half my life and it is still a pain. When the hose is all twisted and you don't want to or can't unroll it drag it and straighten it, sometimes I just coil it with the twists and wrap it up. That's mostly extension cords though, twisted air and water hoses are a massive PITA.

It's a pretty nice skill to have. It's nice to have hoses + cords ready to go instead of tangled. It also makes you not look like an idiot.

That's awesome, non-destructive mischief!

Not your job to coil hoses MOM. Time is money, toss it aside and keep going. Or add $1 to the bill.

Besides, who says it's the kids who don't coil the hoses? Bet it's the adults.

I remember my shop teacher yelling a student one time who was doing a crappy job rolling up an air hose. He said roll that hose up like we do in America! I said to myself that is how most people roll up a hose. lol

It's called lack of common sense. Most kids these days are pretty useless unless it comes to phones and video games.Just my opinion.Have a great day

I'm sure that teaching kids to roll up a hose, would somehow be considered abuse. Better just to give them a participation trophy for life skills, and call it good...

I personally think something like that should be taught at home instead of making the school become a nanny class, but whatever.
Here's something that my kids did when they were between 5-10:
They took a garden hose that had been used (in other words, had no pressure in it, but was wet inside) and took dry dog food that fit somewhat tightly in the hose and put quite a few pellets in it.
The dog food then expanded, dried, and then clogged the hose and was unusable when I needed it a few days later. It took awhile to open it up.
Guess what? They did it again to me a few days later. :-)

A number of years ago when I was playing in a band, after we were done playing at 2 in the morning, everyone helps each other pack up our stuff. I was doing one thing and a bandmate took my guitar cords and wrapped them around his hand and bent-arm/elbow. My wife saw him do it and laughed 'cause she knew that's not how I do it. At 3am, her and I get home and bring in my gear. I set it down, get out my cords, and coil them properly !

Everytime one of these threads pop up I find it hilarious.

Schools this, schools that. Kids this, kids that.

Who raised them? Failed to teach them life skills?

I blame the parents. Common sense and everyday chores have never been and should never be taught at schools. Funny how easy it is to look everywhere but inward when it comes to "the problems of today."
