Hi

I took my integra 5spd manual to the mountains over this weekend. My all seasons ohtsu fp7000 tires were terrible in snow. Could be that it has about 30k miles on it and have 60% tread left though. When the tires were slipping in reverse trying to get traction, there was an audible high pitch whine from what sounded like it came from the transmission. Does anyone know what could be causing this noise? Car drives fine now and no noise, hope i didnt damage anything.

Could it be that it was spinning while slipping at very high RPM in reverse, therefore the high pitch noise? Normally when i reverse, rpm is no higher than 1.5k rpm. May have gassed it not knowingly to 2.5-3k while it was slipping.

Happened when the trans was cold and after a 5 hour drive.

A partial grill-block in the winter may be a solution.
My car does it too; the colder the transmission, the louder it gets. And i use the thin Honda MTF. I`m not bothered by it.

The tires were poor in the snow because they are not snow tires. The whining in reverse was just normal manual transmission straight cut reverse gear noise.
