I have a stump grinder with Link Belt purgable bearings. Already had a bearing go out at 100hrs. I was using Lucas, "Red and Tacky"., which I thought was good product .Does anyone have any advice of a better grease, Im not sure of the r.p.m. but I do know the outer housing runs at about 150 degrees on a average day, checked it with a non contact thermometer, Im in Florida so the conditions are very sandy. Thanks for any help..

I'd recommend the Amsoil Multipurpose Grease, which is made for high rpm, high temp applications. The Mobil 1, synthetic grease is also good and may be easier to find.

Check your shaft/bearing to see if they are running true to each other, and use self alinging bearing,,for grease Schaeffers 221#2 moly ultra 800 EP,or the 274#2,BL

Your problem may not be the grease choice as much as sealing problems. If it goes out again, check the seal/shaft to make sure it is nothing less than perfect. If that's too difficult, you may have to step up the greasing regimen to purge contaminated grease. ANY grease - no matter how well formulated - will perform poorly in a bearing if it gets contaminated with grit and moisture.

Forgot to mention ,Vibration on these chippers and out of balance can and will contrubute to short life of the bearing also .BL
