Grill decisions

I'm glad Weber is sending you a new regulator. I cook with mine at least 2-3x a week, and did so just last night, enjoying the back yard after the first "yard work day" of the season. I hope you'll like the grill once you get the faulty part replaced.

I don't know how it works exactly but sometimes the valve/OPD on that tank will restrict the flow and cause a low/no flame. When it happens try these steps: Turn off the grill's valve, then turn the the tank's valve off then on, then open the grill's valve and light the grill. It's happened to me a few times and those steps seem to fix it.

Been there, done that.

My Weber Genesis Gold is way more crusty than that. I've had to replace the igniter twice and the thermometer is shot. Just clean all that stuff out, vacuum it and blow out with compressed air. Heat cycle it a few times and good to go.

I want to get one of the redneck BBQ's with a separate heat/smoke box leading to the cooking chamber. What brands are out there/

I prefer cooking with oak logs. It's what I do when I know I'll be cooking longer than a few hours (pork shoulders, brisket, rib racks, etc.).

I have a gas grill and it is convenient for smaller jobs. I've never given much stock into brand name for those. Weber might be great, but not for me for the price. My last no-name brand lasted almost 15 years.

I keep all my grills stored under a porch. I think it makes the biggest difference, but keeping them clean also helps alot.

Our old cheapo is rusting bad and the burner covers have holes. I'm thinking of stainless steel, any problems with that? What do you guys think about infrared. Uses less gas, has more heat, or just a gimmick?

I am tempted to go for the weber Q.

Very expensive though - $300 for Q 120.

I made a mistake with a $50 gas high pressure - the plate keeps shedding paint even though i primed it per their instructions. Won't cheap out again.

I have a weber charcoal kettle which is great. But gas sure is convenient.

Pulled the trigger on a Q 220 today. Also got a grill plate for brekky. Didn't buy a trolley - the accesories are overpriced. Just using a cheap camping/ cards table.

Love gas!

Glad iwent with the "regular"size over the baby q. Cooked a ripper roast veg with beef and bacon sausages.

Yeah - Was expensive but willing to pay premium for Weber, having grown up with dad's charcoal and my compact charcoal kettle. The hour long warmups on the charcoal were getting a bit much, but still use it occasionally. When we have lots of people over I would use both the Q and kettle for multiple roasts.

Just noticed on the US site:
Uses disposable 14.1- or 16.4-oz LP cylinder (not included)

This is odd... Australia is either 4.5kg or 9kg gas bottles - 10 or 20 pound LPG vessels!

Yeah, but the little blue cylinders for my propane torch cost as much as a refill on the 9Kg cylinder.

Pulling an old one out, we got the Q320 as our new grill.

It is made in USA, has great heat, I like the cast iron grates, and is a lot less $ than the bigger Weber grills, which I didn't like because we keep it under a cover on our back patio, and wanted a minimal footprint when it isn't in use.

It gets hot quick. I don't even need to have it on the max gas flow. 500 is easy!

We haven't grilled food on it yet, I'm just seasoning it. We don't have Crisco, but we have flax oil and I've read that is a good choice.
