He starts driving in October. 1997 Chevy Z71. 160,000 miles. Two owners. I bought it from a friend. All service records. All I need to do is fix the quick disconnect on the intake for the coolant to the heater core line. Not a spot of rust. I love this area of Washington. If I can get another 40 to 60,000 miles or 3 years out of it I will be happy. 3500 dollars.

Nice … had a 1995 Z71 that I passed down to my son … it was a trouble free unit …

Nice! Sure beats what my kid will get to drive!
Yeah around here that is generally a 5000 to 6000 dollar truck, but I have known the guy I got it from for 15 years. He was done with it, bought a newer truck and it was a fourth vehicle. It is very clean as far as trucks go for that year. For 3500 bucks even if I have to do a transmission I am still doing ok.

No kidding--that'd be probably close to $10k up here, once in a while someone will list a rust free Southern vehicle and it'll be priced to match. Good deal--even if you do a trans you'll still be way ahead.

Last year he had the injectors, intake gasket and water pump done. What blows my mind is the oil pressure 50ish psi driving down the highway.
35ish at hot idle. Really good for a SBC.

We lost our drool emoji with the Xenforo upgrade.

I’m seriously jealous. I loved my 96’ C1500 5.7L.

Unlike the 5.3L, you can burn some rubber in that truck. Keep an eye on the rear tires 🤣

That truck is in great shape for 23 years old and the bed cover is sweet also. Hope your son takes good care of it and great choice for a 1st vehicle. Good job!!! ;)

Old school small black Chevy. A true Vortec. The LS first went into truck in 1999. This thing has no torque management. Weird driving something without.
I'm smiling reading that. :) Torque management in my vehicles wasn't something they needed to think about--yet appears designed in.

Hey, back in the 90's I recall Vortec heads being the cats meow for SBC upgrades--supposedly better than any factory head. And cheap, brand new even. Are they still a hot hop-up item for the older SBC's?

Yeah, Vortec heads for the SBC are still a good value for performance. They are sought after in junkyards.
