Humor me on this one, guys...

If I can get a "good" dino oil for, say, $1.00/qt, vs. a "cheap" synthetic oil (like maybe SuperTech) for, say $1.50/qt, would the dino fans still go for dino? I understand using Havoline instead of Mobil 1 because of the extreme price difference/value discussion, but I was curious if you could get an inexpensive synthetic (including GIII) for a *little* bit more, would you take the plunge? Would it be a good "value"? At what price point/variance does it *become* a good value?

I use cost per mile. In your example I have to be willing to go 1.5 X more miles for my OCI on cheap III than dollar dino or I won't buy it.

So same or similar performance/protection in your book, so strictly a matter of $/mile and no other benefits? No problem if so...just wanting to clarify.

Good dino for me! It's not so much miles I am concerned with as it is time. I drive about 13-15K a year, but that is made up of a LOT of short trips (less than 2 miles) and a few really long highway trips. So for me, time is more of a factor than miles, so my oil gets changed more often with less miles.

Here is one in reverse:

Wally World MC = $ 2.07
Wally World Castrol GTX DINO = $ 2.48

Which do you take? Easy for me, the MC. (the above is one reason why I am using MC)

Good dino all the way.

An excellent additive pack is more important to me than the base oils, simply because I know that most of today's "cheap" dinos already have excellent base oils, especially compared to the dino oils of yester-year.

Are these both GII/GII+? Seems I've read that MC may have some GIII base mixed in, or was it the GTX?

MC is a syn. blend.
Some believe that part of the base stock is supplied from the company called "S-Oil" which provides CP with their Group III bases.

I sure would love to know if the above was 100% true, but I have never seen a definitive answer.

Being a blend, the sheets at least tell you it is up to 83% lubricant petro base oil, the rest additives. So who knows what of the 83%....

IMHO, it is the best value on the market in terms of everyday price.
