GM goes Rice

Accusing someone of racism used to be a pretty serious accusation, but frankly so many people use that term inappropriately that it's really lost whatever shock value it once had. See the example above.

I really like the Saab 93 2.0T. I took one for a test drive a while back. It has a turbocharged 2.0L 4 cylinder that puts out about 200 ft/lbs of torque at 2500RPM and that's flat until about 5500RPM. Horsepower is 205HP but there's new firmware for the engine computer which ups it to about 250HP. Only thing is that the device to install the firmware costs about $900...

Yep, it sure is, Brian. Serious. Seriously depressing that these people still exist.
But I don't think that was your point...

Brian, I know you're not that dense.
The term in itself - "ricer" is inflammatory.
I've read comments all over from people who can barely disguise their hatred for the Japanese taking over the top rungs in car sales/production.
Don't be coy.

As an aside, because I'm sick of this, look at this - expect more Toyotas in the US while GM/Ford scratch their heads...

Toyota reportedly estimates it achieved a $1.2bn reduction in its global production costs in the financial year ended 31 March, thanks in particular to a new method of developing major component sets such as motors and braking systems. Further cost reductions are expected this year and thereafter, as the same methodology is applied to future model development.

There's a difference between an inflammatory term and a racist one.

Faulting people for behavior, such as doing the sort of things to their vehicle that the term "rice" encompasses is not, in my opinion, racist.

Presumably, behavior is one thing that people have control over.

Now, if you believe that behavior and race are linked....

If you'r so sick of it, why do you continue to bring it up? Why, when you asked that nameless person about the body shop who so insulted you by calling your car "rice", didn't you just deal with whomever it was in the private message instead of bringing it here? Did that person even post on this thread?

It's wonderful, Scott, that Toyota is doing so well. What relevance does it have to this thread? Or are you bringing it up in hopes of stirring the pot some more, as I suspect is the case?

By the way, I've been looking for those painted rear differential covers and I'm sorry to say that I haven't seen a single one in the last several weeks.

Whatever, Brian.
If you'd like, I will take pix of all the stupid cars in LA - Japanese and American made.
Will that make you happy?
There are plenty of idiots on "both" sides.
You however seem to think the idiots all drive Japanese cars.
Pull head out of sand.

The example above was to point out a constructive bit of info regarding the reasons why Japan is leading. Just information. View it as you wish.

Scott

I think the "import performance appearance" [1] modification trend started in LA, since I started seeing webpages with photos long before I ever started seeing actual cars.

[1]I believe this is the industry/PC term for it. We should probably be using the term "import performance appearance" to avoid offending the delicate sensibilities of the more finely-nuanced among us.

Awesome, dOOd! What is the industry/PC term for dumba$$ rednecks in rusted/stickered/cast-iron smokers?

Let's put us all on the same page going forward...

You'll have to find out that one for yourself. Frankly, it's alright with me if you continue to use the term "redneck". It just shows what an urban sophisticate you are.

LOL, thanks, Brian, but I come from Butte, Montana - the big urban center of the west.
Got plenty of rednecks in my family - but they're smarter and more enlightened...

ScottB My '93 Cavalier is still racking up the miles. Almost 1/4 million of them now. My neighbors "92 Camry is under water however. The replacement for her low mileage sludged and locked up engine will cost more than it's worth as a trade in, and she still owes real American money on it. Oh what a feeling! I'm proud of my redneck heritage by the way, "grew up with grease under my fingernails". Rickey.
