I feel it was a huge waste of money.. but a lesson learned.. this [censored] thing cost me $50 (Canadian tire) and i only purchased it early august, but after reading and hearing SOO MUCH negative stuff about their filters and how much dirt they let into the engine, i must agree. i removed the air filter and the thing still looked 101% brand new, as i held it up to the sun, this [censored] filter is hardly a filter, it was very visible when i held it up to the sun. I am so mad at myself for thinking k&n was good.. and no i felt no HP increase, no more MPG and no acceleration increase.. then again i just got a dodge caravan not a super turbo charger... never again..... never again.... and to think i purchased a k&n oil filter as well for my previous oil change.. i feel like ditching it all.. including the oil filter and buying a motorcraft FL-1A (extremely high recommendations on this).. ggrrrr! so mad at myself.. im going to see if K&N will refund me my money, i still have the proof of purchase but i wish i havent thrown away the box, i probably could have taken it back to canadian tire... [censored]!

im going to order a Amsoil EAA170 for my dodge caravan.. is this superior to any other air filter like i have been reading/hearing?

I wouldn't throw away the oil filter. They are good filters just pricey.

You can get the same filter in a Mobil 1 for less. Wix and purolator are also quality filters for about half the price.

K&Ns work. But they aren't free.

1-They cost a lot more
2-You have to clean and re-oil
3-The oil film can get on MAF sensor

In high performance apps, they really work, but I'm not so sure in regular, non-redline driving, they are worth the tradeoffs.

I would agree. In naturally aspirated engines the additional airflow that a K&N would provide isn't needed until you start getting pretty high in the RPM range.

Additional airflow isn't very useful if the engine doesn't need it.

I'm glad you went with the EAA air filter. I ditched my K&N long ago and run the EAA. Love it.

so far all i hear are great things about the EAA air filter while hearing just negative about the k&n.. but i do agree that the k&n would be more suitable for a high rpm engine/car .. but it still doesnt avoid the fact that it does indeed allow more dirt to enter the engine. if my van had a turbo and was fixed for high performance.. i would have certainly kept the k&n filter in it.. but its not and it will never be haha. heck the highest rpm i hit with my van is like 3500, other then that every day driving is around 1500-2500 rpms.. i dont do ebay(dont ask) but i will if someone wants to buy it.. then again i believe the filter does only fit a dodge caravan and i dont know any one that will want to buy it for a van..

I had a AFE oil type till i recently ordered a AFE Pro Dry S filter....much better. I still have my old AFE oil type as a back up between cleanings.

EAA has arrived in the mail today :) gonna go install it and just box up the k&n and store it somewhere for the time being. its still in mint condition so..

I bought a K&N for my car before I knew about this site, and after reading about the slightly inferior filtration (Filtration > Flow for me), I sold it to another Integra owner for about 2/3 of what I paid for it. It only had like 1,500 miles on it when I sold it, and it looked like new still and I still had the box and whatnot. So, it's possible that you could re-sell it.

Gave mine to the BMW indy shop yesterday while in for oil/filter change (they didn't want it). Asked them to clean the MAF, they d@mn nearly wet their panTs. Even though I supplied CRC MAF cleaner they were VERY hesitant as "it could damage the MAF" I don't think they like it when I turn up, a bit set in their ways as is BMW itself I guess.

yea, i thought my good O dodge caravan would benefit some how some way from the "increase air flow".. but it didnt, i wonder why? i mean i only drive at 1500-2500 rpms? LOL... and its only a stock engine. i guess the kandn benefits those drivers with high power HP and that drive fast reving to 3500-4500 most of the time.. im installing my amsoil eaa this weekend :) .. i couldnt believe the difference in filter!?!? when i held up the K&N to the sun, it was like seeing through a very thin piece of paper with tiny holes in it.. when i held up the eAA to the sun, i couldnt see a single thing through it. filtration is more important for me also vs "high air flow". since my vehicle doesnt benefit from high air flow, i might aswell benefit from filtration :)

Well the K&N bashing kinda peqed my interest also.
So the K&N that ive been running since my LAST Bronco ('88) is gonna get "retired" in favor of an Amsoil EAA88.
The extra dirtholding capacity is what got me.
Here in the NewMexico desert there is a lot of sand blowing when the winds whip up.
Question though.
This EAA "spiderweb" technology sounds an awful lot like Donaldson's new high efficiency truck air filters.
Are Amsoil's filters made by Donaldson?
Or is it just a similar media??

Also , has anyone done any flow testing on the EAA filters?

I do a bit of high altitude trail running (over 12,000 feet elevation) and airflow IS a big concern.
At those altitudes oxygen is a bit on the thin side and you need all you can get.

Donaldson licensed the technology to Amsoil for automotive use. No one really knows who makes them as Amsoil has partnered with several big name filter companies such as Wix, Donaldson. It not important who makes them because its unique to Amsoil. Donaldson had not licensed the technology to any other filter manf.

Look what I just installed on my 2008 GMC..

I would imagine if Amsoil is partnered with Donaldson then it is probable they are at least buying filter media from them.
Maybe Amsoil is just cutting , pleating, and building their own elements using Donaldson media.

Nothing bad here, in fact very good as the Donaldson media seems very impressive.

I think at this point Donaldson has just had no interest in using this media for general automotive applications. (?????)

So, KUDOS to Amsoil for doing it for them!
(IF indeed this is what has been done?)

Nice intake setup by the way!
