With the money spent on rebuilding NO and stuffing money in refugies pockets we could have built dozens of refineries, Nuclear Plants and Hoover Dams.

Was the shortage bad? Was there a shortage? Lots of cars on the road ,it does not seem like there was a shortage

So the rest of America can continue with its voracious consumption of energy subsidized by our government?

Well..I was just comparing what we are getting in the case of the NO debackle and what we appear to need in this country. I agree we are energy hogs. The Hoover Dam was initially paid for by the government, but unlike todays unfunded mandates ..it was required to pay for itself in x years before the gov. passed the appropriation. Gee..spending and providing the funding for it..what a novel concept.

I think that most of the 'shortage' was brought on by folks who watch way too much news, bought in to the panic and went out and hoarded up all the gas they could stuff in their vehicles and 5 gallon gas cans.

But if you think about it the U.S. helped rebuild Europe after ww2 "Marshall plan" .Give money to a whole bunch of countrys ,kept the soviet union afloat with money and food Cleaning up their messes, help in a lot of disasters and we're blowing up the other quarter of the world and rebuilding for whatever reason,But giving all this money away "redistributing wealth?" is comming back to bite us here because we gave away our money instead of rebuilding this country.

looking back at it, having the Soviets keep a heavy thumb on some of the bigger idiots doesn't seem like such a bad idea now.

I wonder how many gas station owners became rich. American consumer public can be such dumba$$es sometimes.

And when all is said and done we are hated by the rest of the world. The moral of the story is... CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME.

The UN has just declared that their main mission should be ending world poverty--Translation--redistribute wealth from haves to have nots.

Remember LBJ's "War on Poverty"--well 40+ years later we still have plenty of poverty in America.(probably more than in 1964 when LBJ had his 'vision'.
