I have an old school garage door opener remote (pic below) that clips to your visor. On my Civic it rattles like crazy and drives me nuts to the point I've been keeping it in the center console. I'm usually very creative, but I'm drawing a blank on this one. Does anyone know a simple cheap fix? I've thought about some sort of rubber or silicone 'sleeve' to go between the clip and the visor, but can't find anything worthwhile. My mind has wandered to rubber bands, cotton balls, and even packing peanuts, but none seem logical or sightly.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I take it the clip is loose on the visor, and not the remote being loose itself? If the remote itself is rattly, silicone caulk is your friend. Holds well, you can still pull it apart.

If it is just loose on the visor.... On my old-school remote, the clip slides off towards the bent side. From there you can bend it tighter and put it back on.

Craft stores sell this colored foam stuff "foam sheet", it's thick like cardboard but sold in individual sheets like paper. Comes in all colors. Some have adhesive already on one side. I buy it in black and have used it to line auto cup holders to prevent the buzzing of water bottles. You could buy a sheet, cut out a piece the size of the remote, and glue it on with 3M 77 spray glue or Goop or craft hot glue. Keep in mind you may need to replace the battery someday, don't glue the thing shut.

Alternatively you could glue a patch of this stuff on the visor itself. Carefully cut and styled, and done with the right contrasting color, it could look like OEM.

Both are interesting, thanks. I guess I should have put in my OP that I don't want to change anything permanently, or even semi-permanently. Just a quick effective fix that can come right off/out (basically without leaving any evidence or scarring, mainly referring to the car/visor).

So far the best idea is bending/squeezing the clip tighter. I don't really care about the remote. Don't know why I didn't think of that...

For cases like that, I usually blame lack of coffee.

if you are good at installing stuff i would get one of these and install it. i put one in my 99 outback bu cutting a small hole in the headliner under the visor and wiring it to the dome light. looks factory . you will also get multiple opener use

So squeezing the clip would have worked, but the visor in the Civic seems to be made of hard plastic. So it still rattles no matter how tight. I have to come up with some sort of insulator (I'm thinking rubber... rubber band... something) to actually get rid of it's madness.

How about a tightly folded soft rag between the visor and the clip/body of the opener? You don't want it big so it looks ridiculous or hangs down, but something say half the size of a tea towel could be folded down to both be thick enough to provide cushioning and small enough to not be hanging all over. Yes, I've had hard plastic visors as well and am very annoyed by rattles.

Remove the clip and use velcro.

Try this, It worked great for me with lift master and chamberlain remotes

Cut off a few inches of rubber hose (PCV, garden etc) and stuff it over the end of the clip. Car hose is good because it's stiff with reinforcing cords. You want hose that still sorta wants to stay round vs flattening to exactly match the clip shape.

Put the fuzzy half of velcro on the clamp where it touches the visor.

The buttons rattled on mine. I used a syringe to put some rtv between the buttons and case.
