Amsoil's recent monthly mailer has a large section on Donaldson filters and their relationship with Donaldson. I wonder how long, if ever, it will be before Donaldson manufactures Amsoil’s filters instead of Baldwin? Speculation welcomed.

Never happen, since Donaldson only makes truck filters.

Now, you just might see some other filter manufacturer turning out AMSOIL-branded oil filters using Donaldson nanofiber technology.

****,
That's what I thought but I found cross references for some filters used on cars like these:
code:

FL400 MOTORCRAFT P550400 SPIN-ON LUBE FILTER

FL820 MOTORCRAFT P550965 SPIN ON LUBE

FL1A MOTORCRAFT P550008 SPIN-ON LUBE FILTER

PH3593A FRAM P550162 LUBE SPIN-ON

Filter Cross Reference

Thanks Andy

Andy,

The key phrase is: "based on the Donaldson Nanotechology..."

I think you'll find that the technology is licensed and the filters, if/when they come, are made by another company.

Donaldson doesn't have the tooling to make the smaller oil filters and that would be a big capital investment.

TooSlick, when will these be available and how will I know if I'm getting one or not? Different part #'s?

Great info guys. Looking forward to this technology applied to cars/light trucks enabling extended service intervals of spin on filters.

Thanks a lot!

In reality, although Amosil says to change every 6 months regardless of mileage, I have gone a year on Amsoil filters and seen no noticeable effect on the UOA and the filters look fine as well.
Just had a UOA done this week with 9 months on the Amsoil filter and again, looks great, even cut it open and still looked great inside.

The six month filter myth

When you say longer intervals are ok based on the uoa, have you cut the filter open to see what it going on inside? The uoa could be good and the filter might be a bit past it's ability to protect the engine.

I always integrated that the "6 month myth" was an add pack/TBN booster. This should be easy to figure out if the TBN on Amsoil oils is elevated (understanding that "TBN" retention isn't always reflected in the VOA TBN)
