Hey guys,I had a fuel leak on my daughters 88 cavalier,I asked the kid at the local parts store for (fuel injector hose)anyway after removing the gas tank, cutting the bad section of line out of the sending unit replacing and reinstalling the tank,I find out the (pimple farm) at the parts store gave me regular fuel hose. Will this cause a problem with a injected car because I REALLY DON,T WANT TO DROP THAT TANK AGAIN,it,s a 2.0 litre 4cyl TBI....THANKS.......KEVAL85

honestly, it depends.

is the section of hose you replaced under pressure, or is youre fuel pump external? if youre pump is external and you replaced the fuel pick up line that goes between the pump and tank then that line is not under any pressure, ever.

so depending on what section of hose you replaced (i dont know anything about those cars) you may or may not need to replace the line. is the fuel pump internal or external and which line did you replace.

if the line you replaced is just a return line then i wouldnt worry about it as this line isnt under any pressure.

Had the same thing happen to me twice before I learned the computer and operator at the parts store doens't have a clue .

If it is TBI then I'd leave it alone (assume TBI only develops no more than 15-20lbs pressure. If it is MPI then you will have problems down the road.

I ran the lower grade fuel hose for about a year. It develops major cracking and would soften up and finally began to weep. If it is like my hose it really will begin to show external cracks after time. This was running MPI at 40 lbs of presure.

I even went so far as to contact the discount parts company and tell them that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the first time someone burns up in a fire because they are selling customers the wrong fuel hose then the lawyers will be circling. They don't seem to care as nothing has changed.

Not to worry, your TBI car runs at a lower pressure within the range of normal fuel line. High pressure hose is usually only needed with Multiport systems.

Hey thanks alot guy,s I was hoping it would be all right with TBI system. As for the kid at the parts counter ,I showed him where it clearly states on the roll of hose(not for fuel injection)oh well we were all dumb kids on the job

Hopefully he will have learned.

I would keep an eye on the hose though. If it were my car, I would replace it with the right hose even though its a pain. Knuckles will grow skin back without payments!
