I have a bridge for sale, cheap.

Engine was purchased with 10 hours on it, not 0. Everything I see when working on the engine makes me believe that, why are you so confident it isnt?

I would agree with you that its scrap if the liners are not replaceable (kubota service manuals state to replace the liners when below a certain limit, is this an error?)

Im not going to put it in service if its quite obviously broken, makes sense to replace it now rather than have downtime!

A quick Google yielded this kit:

Ugh, engine was supplied 2 years ago and they have long since gone bust!

That is a shame...well from an uninformed point of view I'd have the sleeves removed and inspection.

The oil wasn't contaminated and it isn't blowing out coolant.
So don't fix a problem that isn't there!.
If the liner was cracked it show up pretty quickly.
Put it back together and see if it runs well for a good length of time. I do agree about changing the oil after a few hours to clear out any contaminants.
If it turns out you need to pull liners then that's life, but I think you are seeing bogeymen in every shadow.

Apparently they sleeves are part of the cast, but could be bored and new liners installed. The pricing approaches the cost of a replacement engine.

True. Having spoken with a kubota specialist, they had the same sentiment until they saw the pictures.

Having felt a bit more closely today, I can feel a very small ridge at a very small section of the bore. Don't think there is any point putting it back together if there is any ridge that I can feel as its just going to destroy the rings.

I would hate to put the time/money into putting it back together and in service for it to go bang in 15 hours.

Their opinion is that the cylinder was a TDC and the mark resembles where the gudgeon pin would have been. The other 2 bores probably expanded and contracted. Explains why the core plug blew at that location.

What sort of application will this be used in?

Could you run it and get a UOA after the first 25-50 hrs of use?

*Missed your last post.

Its to go in a diesel generator on the roof of a small businesses for battery/power backup for networking systems.

Id rather not lug a whole engine up/down again if I can avoid it

It would be possible I suppose.

Lets say there is a very slight ridge that can be felt in a very small area of the cylinder. I assume this will destroy the rings in short order?

I put a new headgasket on it and fired it up. Ran fine!

Did some compression readings, 450/470/460 psi!!

Seems as though its currently ok, so I am going to run it for a while and see what happens. I have bought a spare so if worst comes to worst....
