First use of my new oil filter cutter. My 5 year old son helped me cut open the filter and he got to learn how an oil filter works. Totally worthwhile from that perspective--however not so sure what I am learning from examining this filter other than the media looks great and the oil looks like normal dark used oil. The lightning and camera exposure makes the oil look darker than it really is. Filter media is 100% intact.

For what its worth:

Helping dial in the cutting wheel.

Extracting the outer can:

Can looks very clean inside. Not surprising, I guess.

Filter media looks normal, to me.

The new filter cutter tool worked perfectly. And, it appears to be somewhat self-lubricating during normal usage

Nice filter cutter ... where was it purchased from. Looks like it can cut some pretty small diameter filters (which the 7317 is).

If I'm not mistaken I believe I seen a thread there someone said they made one. That one looks very similar (recalling from memory) I want to say its home made.
