This is intended to be used on a riding mower.

I usually use a cheap FRAM Extra (the orange can) on my riding mower as I change its oil & filter every year without getting nowhere near the recommended maximum change interval.

During a visit to a hardware store, I saw they have Valvoline oil filters. The one I need for my mower is about 1/2 FRAM's prices.

Is the Valvoline really a steal or is it that bad ?

By the way, I'm in Canada so the cheap Frams are $10 up here.

I like to see silicone adbv's on mowers especially those that are right next to the exhaust system.
Many cheap filters don't have them.

Welcome to Quebec, where everything is more expensive and sales taxes are higher !

Ultras start at $16 here. Partsource doesn't exist in Qc.

Isn't the Canadian Tire red filter a rebadged Extra Guard? I've read here they were cheaper, but no experience with them obviously.

Fram motorcycle filters arent nitrile.. so you shouldnt need anything but a normal cheapo filter.

I like NAPA Pro Selects for a value filter.. cheaper than supertech in my area and made by WIX

Of those I would choose Valvoline. I don't like the Fram end cap center tube interface. Like filters that tear, once burned, never again.
Toyota Denso 90915-yzzF2 is a great filter in your size.

Easier to find as well.My 2¢

Twice the height maybe, but the 8170 has twice the pleats, and metal end caps.

I’m running a Fram Ultra XG 4967 on my new Toro. It’s cheaper than the Toro brand filter. My second choice would be a NAPA Gold.

Bad thing is, Valvoline is Purolator (at least the one VIOC uses on my Transit is)-post a picture of the baseplate of the one you need. I won't run them for over 5K.

Where in Canada are you? Pickup some Fram ultras at rock auto and you'll save. I bought 6 ultras for my two vehicles and it cost around $62 CDN with shipping and taxes.

You should be able to use the ultra for at least three years if not more.

I would use whatever is cheapest. I would be surprised if it went the equivalent of 1600km (1000 miles) in a Canadian mowing season. Easy peasy, even for a 'cheapy' filter.

I'm running the Fram TG on my new civic. I think it is a solid filter and no warm start rattle that I had previously with the Honda OEM oil and Honda OEM filter made by guess who, FRAM! My feelings are using a better quality oil eliminated the start-up noise. I will be all ears wheen I install the FU on the next OCI.

I just got a case of Fram Ultras from FRAM, pro bono, based on a complaint I had, the details of which I will keep secret so no one else can take advantage of it for future reference. and that's whats going in, looking for performance gains that upstage all the noise business plus we don't know if it is the oil or the filter that eliminated the warm start rattle or "grind".
