I ran an OCOD for 6,000 miles in severe mountain terrain, and then traveled across the country with it. My engine perfectly fine. Want to know something even crazier? I'd gladly use OCOD again, as I know it is a perfectly fine filter given the proper application.
Recognize that Fram has a strong marketing presence in the auto ailse. Ever notice how the oil filter selection in many Walmarts has a Fram display? That extra marketing isn't done for nothing, and often equates to stronger sales.
Other filters however, such as Motorcraft, Bosch, or Purolator, do not have as large a marketing effort. Therefore, I am not surprised to hear that a quick sample of general public will choose OCOD.
