Why did you put straight 30wt in that car? Probably won't matter much now that it's getting warmer out but still, even in mild temperatures 30wt is some thick stuff when cold.

I have Valvoline SAE30 currently in my 4Runner and Pennzoil SAE30 in the Lexus. Both were clearance oils from this past winter from both AZ and AAP. The Lexus ES330 has VVTI the 4Runner does not. No performance issues in either. I wish I had time to figure it out but my justification was that a 5w30 at 15 degrees is not any thinner than SAE30 at 40-50 degrees not to mention the VVTI actuators are pressure operated and the oil pump relief valve sets oil pressure until the engine warms up and the total resistance to flow determines oil pressure below the relief valve setpoint. Nothing at all wrong with running an SAE30 in something modern.

Well, it looks like it was maybe 2 qts of 30wt and 2 qts 10w30?

But I agree, so long as temps stay above freezing, should be fine.

It doesn't get that cold in Car51's location, which is similar to mine. I think people are looking too much into it. I know several of our vehicles survived with thicker oil in the winter... I remember starting my 87' Olds Delta 88 in single temps with 10w40; no irregularities that I can remember.

I remember a really cold January day when I was younger (probably in the mid '80s) when NOTHING we had would start-in the glory days of 10W40 dino & carburetors... EFI is probably the greatest invention for winter starts ever.

Exactly! We haven't had below zero Fahrenheit for over 2 years out here

Talked to some of dads friends that use DELO 10w30 in everything also. I'm not hung up on Moly also. The MC 10w30 HDEO I did consider but $18~ is bit steep

Seems like I read he was using M1 5w30?
No I am not stalking you, I just remember you are one of the few with an xB (even though you have an earlier gen than me).

edit: well, at least the last 2 fills were M1 5w30 EP for ~10,000 miles with an XG3600.
