I finally got my house about 2 weeks ago.The previous owner had a neglected dog and it had tons of fleas. Now i'm getting them on me.I've sprayed triadicide,or something like that 2-3 times and nothing. What else can i use? I have heard of ditomaceous earth. Is this effective? Thanks. There are no pets right now.

Whaaa? Is CA for real?

I Googled it an got tons of results, legit ones about the insecticide.

CA goes so far as to block search results for an insecticide? Wow.

Although this won't deal with them outside it will make sure your inside doesn't get infested( unless already too late ).

Go to your local ACE Hardware( or similar )and get a 1/2 dozen or so flea traps. It is a device that plugs into your wall socket and has a changeable piece of sticky paper( like fly paper )and an LED light. At night the LED shines on the paper and it attracts fleas in the room. They jump on the paper because of the light and get stuck.

Place a couple around the house and watch the paper to see if it catches any. Change the paper every week or so until no new ones appear.

If they get in your home and lay eggs you are in for a nightmare. You will have to strip every bed and wash all bedding, wash all curtains, etc... You will have to vacuum every square inch of the house very thoroughly with a good strong vacuum, and you will have to treat the place with some type of flea bomb.

My house got infested with fleas( as did poor Sadie )2 summers ago and it took MONTHS to get rid of them. Everytime I thought I had it a short time later a new batch of eggs hatched and I had to start over.

Best of luck. This is no joke and is a serious pain if they get inside and setup shop so to speak.

Go over the yard with a drop spreader and pulverized lime. ( not grandular). It will help the yard and dry out the fleas. You will need a pesticide though. A pyrthrin should get them.

+1 on the sticky traps. I have one in our mud room which is the most used outside door. It always starts picking up "hitchhikers" that try to sneak in this time of year. Several more stationed around the house like night lights grab a few more that make it past the mud room. It's easier to keep fleas out than to eradicate a large colony of them.

Just another internet expert here. When I lived in So Cal we had a HORRIBLE flea problem. One advice from a pet store fixed it. Inside, you a borax based product. Dont cheapen out, cover everything with it then vacuum it up after a day.
Outside, there was a product that contained nematodes or something like that. Sprayed it mixed with water on everything.
Never a flea after that....... I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it work myself.

Flea bomb the house and leave it closed up for a whole day or even two if you can. At the same time have an exterminator treat your yard.

These ideas sound good. I have been leaving on a spare uv light from my reptile outside, right over a pan filled with oil.I don't know if it's gotten any overnight because any flea that i find on me, i toss in there.I'll cover the oil with t.p. tonight and see if any land in there .thanks for all the ideas.Oh,can i spray the nematodes 1 1/2 weeks after i sprayed that triadicide stuff?

Yes, diatomaceous earth is effective for fleas in the yard.

Diatomaceous earth works great. You have to get the food grade stuff though. The pool filter stuff is not the same. Apply it with a hose end sprayer. Soak everything. Get every surface. It will look like you powdered your yard when it dries. Works great and is non toxic to everything but bugs. Google it, you can probably find a fifty lb bag of the stuff for under seventy bucks delivered. You may need to treat the yard if the rain washes it away. I bought a fifty lb bag four years ago and still have half of it. Amazing stuff. There is also something to be said for knowing that it works by cutting up the exoskeletons of the little buggers. They bleed to death. A little bit sprinkled into your carpets will get the majority of them in the house too.

I finally went to buy the d.e. powder. I went ahead and spread it by hand all over the yard. That was almost 8 hours ago and it seems that i haven't gotten any fleas on me! Does it work that fast?? I bought a bag that also contained some crawling bug insecticide in it.Well, i hope that takes care of that!!!

When dealing with fleas, there is no such thing as overkill. When I had them, I had to wear only things that the fleas didn't like (do not wear any fleece any only wear those really thin socks).
