I recently purchased a Canton Racing 6" spin-on oil filter to put on my F150, simply because I didn't like how small the factory filters are now. I did a lot of research on them, they are full flow, no bypass, no anti-drainback valve either. I wasn't concerned about that for this reason, the factory filter (Motorcraft) sits pretty much level, and when I take it off hardly any oil is left in the filter itself. So how important is an anti-drainback valve? The Canton has a "flapper" valve on it which Im sure doesn't do much to keep oil from draining out. But I have not experienced any clatter on startup either, so again Im not convinced the anti-drainback stuff is all that important anyway. If oil flows back into the engine through the large hole in the center, does the anti-drainback stop the oil from escaping through there? Does the engine keep positive pressure on the filter to prevent oil from draining out of the filter through there when the engine is off? I don't think so given the small amount of oil left in the filter. Again, these are just thoughts and observations Ive had over the years that led me to this decision. The filter cartridge is pretty much indestructible, so full flow even in the coldest temperatures won't hurt it, and no amount of pressure is going to bust the case itself. No Im not a sales rep, Id considered filters like these before and just never wanted to spend the money to buy one. I did not want to get one of the ones with washable elements, thats just too messy and too much work to be honest. Anyway, just wanted to put those questions and observations out there.
