Haven't missed one yet.

I change my oil every 5 years, whether it needs it or not!

Yeah but how many miles? What brand of oil?

Was a joke. Was trying to put myself in Caravan Mom's shoes... the ones she probably just bought at JCPenney with the money that should've been used on oil.

Awesome. That's a great way to translate something they could give a s*** about (checking oil) into something they absolutely give a s*** about (vacation). Might have to try a derivative of that on the GF.

Then again, it helps when you have a newer car that doesn't burn oil. She tells me that she does check it from time to time, though. More power to her, more than most people are capable of.

Sucks to hear about the lady. Oh well, that's life.

My fiancee is okay about checking oil and asks me to check tires, etc. every once in a while. She's also learning how to change oil on her new car.

My brother owned a 92' F150 w/ a 302 when he was 16. He got the truck with about 200K, sold it with 252K. It had zero oil/filter changes! Whenever it started knocking, he would just add a quart of oil. He sold it for 2800.00 and it still ran fine.

It works like a charm. She has also had vehicles that didn't burn oil, but our new Ody seemed to be burning a lot in the first 2000 miles. Seems to have stopped now thankfully. Her 3.2TL never burned a drop from 0 miles on.

I relate every expense risk to things she wants to buy like vacations, massages or shoes. She always goes in to get any windshield rock chip fixed right away before it cracks the whole windshield. This way we dont have to end up buying a new windshield at the cost of 1 or 2 spa days, or a couple or 3 pairs of nice shoes.

I get real buy-in of preventative maintenance this way. Just have to talk their language!

Jim_5 I think you just helped 90% of the guys on the board. This is an awesome and useful contribution!

Plus it makes for a great laugh!

Finding a way in which I understand women is like finding a needle in a haystack. However, I've got the car maintenance needle figured out.

Can anyone help out with the rest of the haystack?

Anyway you tried to help her but sometimes the best lessons are learned through stupidity.
I'm leaning towards #1 and #4.
