At SCA in Oz, 12 Aug to 22 Aug (today)

The big 6L jugs of Nulon full synthetic are half price.
5W30 Long Life, API SN, ILSAC GF-5, Dexos1-Gen2.
10W40 Fast Flow, API SN/CF, ACEA A3/B4.
Both are $40

Also the 6L Penrite synthetic oils are 30% Off, at $50
Full Synthetic 5W30, ACEA 5/B5 and Ford 913-D (high ZDDP oil at 1050 ppm Zinc & TBN 10.1, but thin at KV100 = 9.6 cSt, classic Ford 913-D)
Full Synthetic 10W40, API SN/CF and ACEA A3/B4

Also at Repco

Castrol Edge 5W30 A3/B4 Full Synthetic & Full SAPS
ACEA A3/B4, BMW LL-01, MB 229.5
So, TBN above 10, Noack Volatility below 10%, HTHS at 3.5 cP or above, and high ZDDP at about 1000 ppm Zn (hence SL rather than SN or SP, the API chemical limits rules, not the quality of the oil)
This is my go to oil, running it in the 2.5L Nissan X-Trail (Rogue) right now.
The oil is half price at $35 for 5L

At AutoBarn in Australia, 22 Aug to 5 Sept.

Gulf Western 10W30 semi-synthetic
API SP and ILSAC GF-6A
70% Off, $10 for 5L

That is an amazing good price at $2 per litre, and you have the natural advantages of 10W30 such as its low Noack volatility and its shear stability, coupled with the new tests added to SP & GF-6A, like timing chain wear protection and LSPI protection.

KV100 = 10.6 cSt
PP = -30C
TBN = 7.2
SA = 0.7 %

I know, I too have ample oil.

Gulf Western isn’t a brand I usually pay attention to, but I’ve looked them up and yes they are on the official API list. So this is a real API SP 10W30 oil, and there has been significant improvements in going from SN to SP, so you know it’s a good oil.

And that price ! One red back gets you two jugs .....

I like Gulf Western BlackTak 5% molyplex grease. 1 tube last forever. has been in my Territory lower balljoint after i swap it years ago. 800kg 4-ball EP weld point compare to the normal 200kg.

Thanks for that, good to hear, looks like GW is now on my radar.

That’s the benefit of following quality industry specs, and producing good PDS data sheets with real numbers measured to ASTM standards. It allows people to trust your product.

Looks like I’m lining up for my first GW purchase.

Gulf Western has always been good oil. They just entered the market with some low cost options which put some people off. Look at the weights of some of their 'comp' oils, 1000hp E85 oils.

Repco: Valvoline Engine Amour 10w40 API SP Semi syn. $25 for 5L. Not to shabby....
Nice, I’ve not used the newer API SP EngineArmour, but I’ve used lots of the older 10W40 semi-synthetic DuraBlend that was API SN/CF & ACEA A3/B4.

The older SN 10W40 EngineArmour had a Noack Volatility of 10.2% according to the Valvoline PDS, which is nice and low. I’m sure the newer one is much the same.

Edit: just looked it up, the newer SP 10W40 Engine Armour is still Euro rated with A3/B4. That should suit most cars.

At AutoBarn, 6 to 30 Sept.

Castrol GTX 15W40 UltraClean semi-synthetic
API SN/CF and ACEA A3/B3
65% Off, $13 for 5L

Also, 20% Off Cooper oil and air filters. I use these filters a lot.

Valvoline Super Diesel 10W40 semi-synthetic
API CI-4/SL & ACEA E7
50%Off, $46 for 10L

From the SCA site:

Features

  • 10 Litre, 15W-40, API CH-4/SJ, ACEA A3/B3.
  • Reduces soot agglomeration, sludge formation and resists thermal breakdown to keep your engine clean
  • High Viscosity helps reduce oil consumption in worn and older engines with higher tolerances
  • Mineral formulation suitable for use in light and heavy duty diesel engines without DPF, see our Parts Guide to find the right oil for your vehicle
So mineral oil and 15w..... Still good buying all the same :)
