I need a pair for an upcoming job and they are probably not a bad thing to have in the toolbox either.

Any decent and affording options or should I just go to HF for their ~$13 pair? I would like a pair that locks. Looks like some on Amazon do not?

I've had a Blue Point set for years. It came with two big ones and two small ones. Probably had em over thirty years. Buy once, cry once.

The HF ones are probably fine. Do they lock?

Buy yourself some of these. I don’t like having the weight of pliers pulling on fragile plastic hose barbs.

During the heat of summer it helps to clamp off the heater hose.
Some designs especially GM depend on constant flow through the heater instead of having a separate bypass circuit. Some sort of bypass is important to keep coolant circulating through the engine before the thermostat opens.

my VW Vanagon with the 2.1 L is the one I pinch off the front heater hoses on. Easy to get to right behind the glove box.

Don't use one on brake hoses. The flow can be blocked by simply holding the brake pedal depresses.
