I need to get a halfway decent floor jack. A friend got some cheap POS (Delco?) from walmart and it was the jankiest thing I ever saw. I actually bought a craftsman one time but it wasnt high enough to lift my stock truck. Id like to keep it under $100 if possible because I dont need it but a couple times a year. Any reason not to go with a taller craftsman jack? Will need a pair of jackstands too.

I have a old, old Allied Hydraulic jack, it has been great and tall enough to lift my chevy pickups. I dont know if they are still around or make jacks that are quality anymore.

Craftsman runs a pretty good 3 ton jack with stands on sale from time to time. I have one and it is very good, OTOH their 2 1/4 ton floor jack almost left me stranded. I'd watch the Sears sales. They ran this Sears item #50188 for $99.99 which IMO is all you'll need. 3 Ton jack and a pair of good stands. Not sure if it is on sale now but they do run it often. HTH

Go to Costco and get an 3.5T Arcan. They're very highly rated, have dual action pumps and are low profile for
Avoid Sears!! They're leakers.

Yep, they bought Hein-Werner & are making them in MO. I believe there are some jacks made in GA as well but I'm not sure if Shinn-Fu is the one with the plant there or not.

Sears doesnt have anything on sale right now and theres no sense in paying full price there unless you need it yesterday.

Ill try to check out the costco one but I dont have a card there (have a friend who does). Sams club doesnt have any online so I might just have to go in and check them out. Seems they would have at least one model.

That's a Torin jack, not an Arcan. Pep Boys usually has Torins . The Costco by me didn't have jacks when I was there last week, so you might want to phone ahead if that's where you're going to buy.

I had no problems with their bigger jacks [3 ton]. I have one for over 20 years. The 2 1/4 ton model was a POS. They run sales very often it is just a matter of time to catch one on sale. Now maybe in 20 years the 3 ton jack evolved into a POS because it is made by someone else? I don't know, they look pretty good. But like so many other things you get what you pay for.

If you really want a high end jack you'll have to pony up more $$$$$ for it.

My question, are all the floor jacks at Harbor Freight junk? They sure have a wide selection at reasonable prices.

For me it would only get light to moderate use. Any thoughts?

Not trying to hijack, just piggy back rather than start a new thread. TIA

Harbor Freight and Northern tool sell some really cheap junk right next to an ok item.

Shop carefully. There's more [censored] there than anything else.

But then again one can get a good value there. It also depends on how hard you're going to use it. For a person at home using a floor jack 3/4 times a year probably not a big deal. Getting one for use in making a living, different story.

Got a 20 year old $20 floor jack that I use occasionally that makes things go up and down just fine. Works just as good as a scissors jack but has wheels. Maybe I'm just lucky, but then I don't beat my tools up.

But then never ever trust any jack, always use jack stands.
