Dropped off the wife’s Grand Cherokee yesterday for a free oil/filter change and tire rotation per the Jeep Wave program.
Dealership receipt showed driver side front/rear rotation only. I questioned the service advisor on this and was advised that only one side was done due to the tread wear pattern?
Not worried as the Jeep is a lease and gets turned in next year, but curious if anyone on the forum has ever heard of this partial rotation practice.

I have done the same thing.

Who cares, it's a lease and you're turning it in soon. Plus it's documented dealership work to boot. NOW, if this was my fully paid off car. I'd be mad as a hornet. There are documented procedures on how to rotate ALL 4 TIRES. In 50 yrs, I've never heard of rotating just 2 tires. They did that because it's a lease that's coming back soon and didn't care. I don't care if it's 2WD or AWD, all 4 tires get rotated regardless. That's standard procedure that's been around for decades. ( like me..decades..UGH..and I feel it too :( ) Moving forward, if the vehicle is not a lease, and you're going in for tire rotation,,,,,ALL 4 TIRES GET ROTATED. if you must, mark the tires with chaulk or something to make sure it gets done.

Wear patterns matter as well. If you wait too long to rotate, you can intorduce road noise when you finally do it.

Right or wrong, I have only done front to rear rotations per side for 35 or more years, even for non-directional tires. Maybe I have been exceptionally lucky, but my tread wear has always been even doing it this way (not to mention it is easier and faster). I do remember the good ole days when we had full size spares and did 5 tire position rotations (which were a pain in the butt if done in the driveway and no lift).

You're definitely not alone (y) even the owners manual of my Scion tC (toyota) says to only do front to rear tire rotations. And they did not come with directional tires from the factory! I've only done front to rear and the tread has worn evenly.. so Toyota recommending this for a good reason!

I always start off with "normal" rotation - crossing the tires from the non drive wheels to the drive wheels - from the drive wheels straight to the non drive wheels on the same side.

But towards the end of the tires life - I will sometimes do an oddball rotation.

Front tires on my Tahoe wear faster - the front passenger side more so than the drivers side.

So at the last rotation the best tire out of the 4 went to front passenger side - the second best went to the front drivers side

Then 5K miles later the front passenger side was pretty much worn out so I got 4 new tires.

I considered doing another rotation around 4K but since the tires were getting close to 7 years old I decided to not bother.

If I would of just done the standard rotation I would have not gotten 5K more miles - that front passenger side would have been gone before then.
