Went out to start the truck this afternoon (4 p.m.) and turned the key and NOTHING...completely dead. Last night I parked it around 7 p.m. As far as I can tell no interior lights were left on plus they shut off automatically anyway. I remember someone else having battery issues caused by On-Star. Even though I don't subscribe to On-Star could it be draining my battery?

Overtime modules can fail and not fall asleep, causing a high battery draw. Charge it tonight and start it in the morning. Google parasitic draw test, do you know how to use a multimeter to perform one?

How old is the battery? I had a cell go bad before, that'll drain it down, in fact it drained both down because it was in the Powerstroke which has two.

Never did the test. Not sure if the battery has been replaced or not but the truck is five years old.

If it's five years old it's probably the original one. Throw a new battery in it. 3-5 years is the typical lifespan.

+1

Every original Delco battery I've had has died at around 5-6 years out with no prior warning indication, like slow cranking.

Don't assume the worst... just get it tested for free at Advance, AutoZone, etc. It is not unusual for batteries to fail suddenly, and sometimes it will be bad enough that you won't even get a click from the starter solenoid.

Sometimes* a dead battery is just a dead battery.

*Usually, unless someone left something on

Well it started right up this morning. Had it on and off several times today also. Battery cables at the ready.
