Come on China. Let's get it right.

The same quality concerns go to other products from that region.
I had to replace the OEM motor mount in my wife's old Villager after about 140k miles. The aftermarket China models? About every 30k after that ...
The quality (or more specifically, the lack thereof) of the rubber was really suspect in those aftermarket mounts (AAP, AZ, OR all the same source).

If they had any business brains they would do what Japan did and make good quality stuff. Word gets around, people get fooled once maybe but not twice.

I think it is a cultural difference. China can make excellent products, it just takes constant supervision and massive product testing. And make sure that testing doesn't follow a pattern they can game.
Production managers make large amounts of money taking shortcuts, skipping production steps, substituting inferior materials, etc. Culturally, getting away with something is the same as doing it right. If I unload inferior goods on you, it's not my fault for doing it wrong, it's your fault for not catching me.
The Japanese culture does not operate like that.

1995 Ford Escort (original had a seam leak).
2000 Toyota Camry (4 cylinder, famous for the crack in the top plastic tank).
Both replaced 2-5 years ago (roughly).

.

Massive corruption in China is part of their business culture, it is almost impossible for westerners to grasp. If you want to do business in China you must play the game of bribery, pay offs, ect. Sure they can make excellent products, but almost all of the products they make are CRAP, even brand name products.

What do you mean by the neck? What the cap threads to?

If so, how can that be too tall? I'd assume even a chong wang doo brand radiator would use OE dimensions.

Yes the neck is where the radiator cap screws onto. The inner part where the pressure seal sits is too tall. It's so tall that the piston on the cap is bottomed out. Since it's bottomed out the cap is a cork and can't vent.

I would assume that that they did not check their work.

You should bill the supplier for your labor costs. Since it's happened more than once, bill for the troubleshooting and test time also.

I'd rather have a used oem part. Even for a fender that's a different color. If the shop is good they will prep, prime and paint it properly. And the fit should be spot on.

That. I will ALWAYS pick salvage parts for body repair...because they are guaranteed to actually FIT.

They used to make the aftermarket radiators in Taiwan at their subsidiary Cryomax, and those radiators are good quality, but they stopped using Cryomax Taiwan. and started using China for their aftermarket radiators

It appears only Ford, GM, and the Europeans still offer easily-attainable OE quality radiators.

Nissens makes most of their radiators in Denmark, if you're lucky enough to find one

What about Modine?

Can you just trim the neck?

I've never seen a Modine radiator on eBay, Rock Auto, Amazon, or any of the parts stores.

I have...I recall NAPA used to offer them. (And I think they made NAPA's house brand.) My Caddy has a Modine HD radiator. Maybe not anymore.

Modine has been focused on bus/truck radiators and CACs. They've scaled back or cut out the passenger car/light truck market.
