Welp, the gf's 1979 Bus and her dad's 1961 Single Cab Pickup made it in Hot VWs most recent issue.
They won awards (not the first year, as the gf's bus often wins something...) at the Farmington, NC show for SEVWC (I believe).
I'll try to get the pictures from the magazine on here when I get a chance, but just a heads up to anyone who may check out that magazine.

This is what the issue looks like:

Neat! I let my subscription lapse a few years ago, perhaps I need to pick that up again.

Yeah, I'll try to get those pictures from the magazine, and then get some real ones when we swing by her parents' place next.

I've always like the bugs, as my I knew how many my dad had growing up. Never got "in the know" on the buses and trucks until I met my gf though. I really like the vehicles.

Believe it or not, the Bus & its 2.0 get mid-20 mpg's and, in complete honesty, her dad's single cab (1.6 IIRC) came in 3 consecutive tanks at about 35 mpg's.

Now you are just making me feel bad. I have a 67 type 1 sitting in the garage that I never seem to have the time to spare for a wash and wax much less an outing.

As requested. These are a few years old but the car basicly has not changed at all.

After 14 years and thousands of dollar the family greeted a new boss in 2008.

The boss loves her horses so this one came along just earlier this year.

In the last 2 years I have spent most of my free time clearing acreage and building fences or maintenance. This weekend I have to mow my lawn, bushhog the fields and pull 1 old concrete culvert out of a ditch and clean the ditch out of build up.

That is awesome, man!
I really like that color Bug. Might be one of my favorites.
As good looking as the Bug is, the daughter's cuteness wins!

1963 Type 1. Purchased new in June 1963 at Snyder Motors, Knoxville TN. Restored in 1986. 124 shows...108 Best in Show or Firsts. My daily driver (at least when the weather is nice!).

Ya'll are making me want to pull my '66 out. I've had a '66 Type I in storage for years. It was a clean car and I'd build a very, very nice 2110cc motor for it (Scat crank & rods, Gene Berg heads, etc etc). At some point I decided to tear it down to nothing, have it media blasted to the metal and painted. It looks awesome, but life started happening and I never got it together again.

I want to build it into a dedicated track vehicle now.
