You were paying for it anyway." My friend and I exchanged a disgusted gesture. Let's say he's not buying a Chrysler product anytime soon. He did test drive the car, which is extremely weak with an automatic. The whole car is as uninteresting as one can get with a new car. Everything felt cheap. The only thing nice about it is the way it looks on the outside, from a distance. Of course, it is not something they come up with recently so they can't claim credit for the good look.

Unfortunately, this parent company also own my favorite brand, Jeep.

The way we were treated was strange. First we were ignored even though we showed up in a BMW 740i. A quick search in their database would show that my friend just bought a brand new, top of the line, Dodge Caliber during the CFC program for his daughter. Everyone there seems extremely lazy and slow. They lost a sale to someone who is an extremely impulse buyer going through mid-life crisis.

1st of all Chrysler is not at fault because a dealership salesman treated you poorly. Complain to the owner not us and don't lay it on Chrysler. Maybe your friend should have mentioned he just bought a Caliber rather than expecting the salesman to be a mind reader. Just a thought.

2nd your continued claims that the new Challenger is a dawg are such bull it isn't funny. The new Challenger is very fast. Are you sure you didn't drive a 3.5L V6 Challenger? The new Challenger with the 5.7L( never mind the SRT8 w/ 6.1L )is not going to take a back seat to many new(er) stock vehicles on the road. To say things as you did in another thread that a Civic or Fit is faster are ludicrous.

As to it being cheap inside well I would say that is just your personal opinion. I have got in a couple and IMO they did a good job. It isn't a $100K+ luxury car interior but for the reasonable( by today's standards )price range for the new Challenger I think the interior is fine. Also, keep in mind, this is a retro vehicle built to mimick the old Challenger of the 70's. It isn't supposed to have a new fancy, hi-tech, interior.

^^ This

You incriminated an entire organization due to one (or two) salesmen? Be realistic, the bottom line is who likes any salesmen in any organization to begin with? Very few go out of their way to help you. Cheap interior? To me people will not stop complaining about the advent of plastics in vehicles until their interiors resemble their favorite recliner replete with matching end-table. Vehicles are not living rooms nor are they elite wine tasting shops.

I agree, just because of one stealership doesnt make them a bad company. I said in another thread that i had 3 of their products over the years and they were complete junk. But i dont think that makes them bad. I believe i just had bad luck with the specific ones i had. Like someone said above every car maker has piles of dung.

Ive never walked into a car dealer and didnt want to smash some guy in the face after five minutes, regardless of car brand

Please post the name of this dealership...I am sure people in the area would like to know.

It amazes me that car manufacturers haven't moved beyond the traditional car dealer mode of selling. People today expect and receive great service from companies like Amazon, but we still get such uneven and often lousy service from car dealers. I've pretty much given up on the new car dealer experience. I go in expecting uninformed and unpleasant sales people, and that's what I find. The last time I was in a Ford dealer for some service I decided to wander around the showroom and take a look at some cars. Not one salesperson even bothered to ask if I wanted help. They just sat at their desks shuffling papers. At least I got to browse in peace. No wonder sales are still lousy.

I had sold cars for a few years, and the team I worked with would be launched out the door if they didn't immediately great a customer. It was unreal how fast mgmt would have us force ourselves on customers.

Fast forward about 5 years after my leaving car sales I went car shopping. I went to several dealers trying to see what would make both my wife and I happy. I got the same treatment as you, I couldn't believe the salesmen sat is if they were dead. Made shopping great. I also noticed the lack of training when it came time to actually sell a car, most guys were green and totally clueless, management wasn't much better.

Showing up in a BMW does not entitle you to be noticed and catered to; Is that why you bought it?

I've owned Chrysler products for a good long time (from a turbo Acclaim to a diesel W250 to a 4.7 Durango), and NONE of them have given me a minute's grief. I got treated very well when I visited my local Dodge dealer (extra key made), and I was excited to be around the new products.

The title of "Chrysler wants to make me puke" seems like you came here simply to bash, and from an elitist Beemer owner, I would expect nothing else.

What is going on at dealers? I was in the new car market, and got so disgusted I ended up buying a used truck from my company. I stopped at the local Toyota dealer to look at a Tacoma, walked the lot and couldn't find anyone. Went inside to the desk and asked to see a Tacoma I had found, the manager got up and yelled over to a salesman who was on Yahoo. The salesman completely looked like he was being bothered, so I said forget it and walked out. The manager starts yelling "hold on" and the salesman is saying he has to logoff...I just kept walking.

How do you guys find these dealers? I've been to like 5 in the past month... Not a single one gave me a problem, all were friendly and helpful. I don't get it.

I'd say Daimler was a huge asset in improving the product line.

Normally the Dodge pickups are good, especially ones from that era, but I think only like 1% of RAM buyers actually got the V10. I'm sure that had something to do with reliability. I would've gone with the 5.9L, which is tough as nails.

The Cummins is a fine engine, but the V-10 was a compromise with my business partner. The 47RE transmission never worked right from day one, despite numerous attempts to fix it while in warranty. Transfer case leaks, too many recalls to even remember all of them. A piston came apart at 47,000 miles, out of warranty of course.

Even though that truck was bought to be a work truck, it never was subjected to hard duty. It only towed a trailer maybe ten times, and the heaviest was approx. 8000 lbs. Well below it's 12,800 lb. tow rating.

Anyway, a friend owns an '06 Mega Cab 1500 4x4 with a Hemi engine. Despite feeling underpowered with the Hemi in that application, it has been mostly trouble free. A big improvement over the '95 I had.

Especially since they keep shipping factories to mexico after getting a bailout.

Hmm. I know that the new Pentastar V6 will be made in a brand new plant in Michigan.

I like stopping in to visit the Parts department; out of the corner of my eye I see the salesmen hurrying towards me and then just as quickly they drop back when I make the turn and head down towards Parts.

it should have been a stipulation of the bailout, keep factory jobs in America.

The worst or best part of the car buying experience is the dealer.
Loved the Ford store from which we bought the Aerostar. Although it was dirt-cheap, we were very well treated.
Was not overly pleased with the Honda store from which came the '99 Accord, although they made up for any shortcomings by giving us a very good price.
Had mixed feelings about the Subaru dealer. We did test drive a couple of cars before coming back and buying one, but I had a little but of a bad vibe. The Sube was not cheap, since Subaru sales have held up very well while everyone else was dying.
The current retail sales system for cars is obsolete.
Too many mouths to feed, and too little uniformity in the buying experience.

When we were checking out SUV's I had wanted to check out the Toyota FJ Cruiser. Truth is the Toyota people made me want to puke. After having some fun with them I decided I would not do business with Toyota. I ended up buying a Jeep, they treated me fairly and with respect. Same for the Ford people. I guess it all depends on the dealership. Funny thing was in all cases I had to ask a sales person for help. LOL
