Old thread, but I've been in and checked out a Chinese-built Highlander. Quality seemed really good, and the owner has put 100K km on it with zero problems. I think the problem may be the GM part of the equation vs. the China part of the equation. Toyota managed to build good cars in China.
Of course, the funny thing is that most Chinese who can afford a Chinese Highlander will buy something else because of the country of origin....
