I've only ever had one CV joint go bad and when it did the car would shake on acceleration.
A friend's car shakes at highway speeds but not until then. His tires and wheels have been checked rotated ect.
Wheel bearings and suspension is tight and true as are the rotors. His passenger side inner CV joint for have a little up and down movement in the joint itself. Not at the transmission but holding the axle shaft portion in one hand and the head of the axle with my other hand (part at the transmission) and holding the head still I get some up and down movement out of the joint. probably 1/8 in of movement. I can't find a spec on the CV axles and allowable play. Is that play excessive? What should it be about?
