These are made by federal mogul. I used to get them from pep boys for $1.59.

They seem well built for the price.

Had a 3985 that does not fit anything I have so I chopped it up. Can seems decently thick. Base plate is very heavy. Parker orange anti drain valve.

Did have a spot on the element that was a little wider than I would like but when I tried to tear it there it took a lot of force.

I then tried to remove the metal end cap. They are very thick and I gave up on that idea as the glue and element were too strong for me to tear easily even with plyers.

Wish I could find more of the ones that fit our cars for $1.59 again.

Never mind my messy bench!

I was going to ask about the coo of the topic Champion. I was able to make out Mexico in first pic. Seems that's what I recall.
Also has coil spring vs leaf style spring. I am not sure many manufacturers are using that design any longer.
Ironically, many of the China made OFs use coil compression spring. While I might slightly prefer the coil compression to flat/leaf, both have been shown to function well holding element in place. I've used both without issue.
