Camshaft and crankshaft sensors

Just a comment on not being able to erase the codes...there are different types of codes (google it)...regular, pending, permanent, etc.

What you have is probably the permanent kind that can not be erased by a (low end) scanner or by unplugging the battery. They either have to clear themselves over time and several drive cycles or you need to go to the dealer (or someone with a high end scanner) to clear them. If you think you've repaired the issue and your check engine light is not on (or does not come on), I won't worry about it.

I had a similar issue with my Xterra when I had a code for a cam sensor and replaced it...could not erase the permanent code...never went back to check to see if it cleared itself.

And yes, you can not trust a scan tool 100%...it might be pointing to a particular sensor, but it might be something else (related to that sensor)...wiring, corrosion, or even another sensor that works with that sensor...or even low voltage.
