not sure if this is the right place foe this questions, but anyway, i have a 2000 Acura TL in my family, since the break pad is near to the end of its life (front 20% rear 30%)... i am start looking for the break pad for it... i have good experience with Hawk HPS, or OEM just wondering if anyone have better suggistions, thanx for your time!

Mechanical/Maintenance is the correct section.

Akebono ProACT for long life, low noise, and low dust
Hawk Ceramic or EBC greenstuff for performance

Rotora slotted rotors are excellent for the TL.

Thanx and sorry for the wrong section...
i don't think i will replace my rotor, i might just resurface it. that car is for my mom... so maybe Akebono is the way to go then... anyone know any place i can get it for a good price?
just wondering hows the breaking power compare to OEM and Hawk?
thanx

My Raybesto ceramic brake pads are not chewing up the ATE rotors after 25,000 miles. However, I do not think they stop as well as OE pads. I may also have warped rotors as well. Needless to say I am not so sure about ceramic pads on brake systems not designed for them.

Just my experience

Rockauto has good prices on the Akebono pads. Google for the 5% discount code as well.

Many of problems with ceramic pads can be linked to using poor quality aftermarket rotors that cannot withstand the pads. If formulated for the exact application, their performance should be comparable to that of semi-metallic pads and should deliver even better rotor/pad life with less dust. In addition, some ceramic pads are better than others. The Raybestos ones seem to fulfill the long life, low dust promise, but falls a bit short as far as performance goes. I've never heard a complaint about the Akebono pads. Akebono seems to have produced a formulation that does not compromise braking performance (in fact, users often report improved performance) yet still delivers low dust, noise, and long life.

You may want to seriously consider throwing on some new rotors as TLs are notorious for rotor warping. You may end up with good pads and warped rotors 10k miles down the road...just keep that in mind.

did you break your brake pads, or are they just worn?

Can't you give the man a brake?

I would go ceramic for longevity and low dust, not performance. Semi-metallic would be better for performance imo. I would just go with whatever material the oem pads are.

Ten days ago I replaced all the pads and rotors on my Golf. I went with ATE rotors and Akebono ceramic pads.

At first I was very concerned about the added amount of pedal pressure required to stop. But after a few hundred miles they seemed to break-in very nicely and now have as much bite, if not more, than my previous pads, with just a normal amount of pedal pressure required.

It has also been more than a week that I have not had to wash the brake dust off my wheels. With my old pads (Pagid front, VW OE rear), the wheels looked terrible after a few days of driving.
