Thank you for clarifying this sayjac. Are you in Deleware or NC? I am a history buff, but dont know which state the old north state is. I like the Purolator classic, and the pure one as used both on my 96' grand am 2.4l 4cyl. Lets go penguins!

I would use a NAPA GOLD, CARQUEST RED AND OR GOLD(ALREADY HAVE), WIX, SUPER TECH(GOT ONE ON THE CIVIC AS WE SPEAK), PUROLATOR CLASSIC (I dont believe marketing bull caca and hype behind any PURE ONE filter period). I dont buy royal purple or mobil 1 or even a bosch as I KNOW ALL ARE MADE BY CHAMPION LABS.
Hmmm interesting thoughts. Super Tech better Purolator Classic, Pure One, also no RP, M1 or Bosch because they are made by Champ Labs.

Yeah, I got a

out of that too.

So exactly what "caca and hype" about the PureOne are you referring to? Just trying to see where you're getting this idea. Hey, maybe I'm missing something here.

ZeeOsix, the [censored] I make fuss about is that I ran a pure one on a grand am, 2.4 quad 4cyl, and didnt mind as it TRAPPED, CAUGHT a ton of junk. I love a group 7 and purolator filter like a wix, both well built. Bull caca is spanish for you know what. My old navy boss BMC(SW) Guevara(rest his soul; passed on in 2007) taught me this and things. I would still run a pure one every time if they were cheaper in my honest opinion.

Interesting thread guys, especially the 'Wha' da [censored]!, wha' da [censored]!' video

. I had a Nissan filter on my shelf waiting for next weekends oil change. I decided to hit it with my new Bosch vibrating saw thing. Look like really good quality inside.

Pic's at the bottom here.

It's North Carolina, ~45mins. NE of Charlotte. The non ecore ST7317 is a popular application and while it might not be my first choice in filters in that price range, for ~$2.80 it's ok for an average oci. IMO, Group 7 would be similar to a Promotive. Thanks for your service.

The only way I run Mobil 1 filters is with an oil/filter special. I won't pay $13 for an oil filter. Otherwise, if I'm just buying oil, I'll use a P1 for $7.

Yeah, my brain broke when I read that. IDK?

IIRC Group 7 was the cheap filters the service stations would toss on a car when they changed the oil. That's if my memory hasn't failed me, I remember them being used 30+ years ago. They were bought by the case load.

Yeah, Group 7 as posted here previously seems to be provided to individual service shops for oil changes. Here is more info...

http://www.group7autofilters.com/oil_filters.html .

Note the consolidation of filters in some sizes/applications to the smaller size. As I've noted at Advance commercial accounts, this is the same practice the Promotive filters has adopted. Example, the 14610/7317 apllications are are all combined into the shorter, same dia., 14612.

Hello again gents, just got back from returning my 5qt jug of ST 5w20 to wal mart and got my 10.88$ back. Went to the filter section and in the Center-Monaca wally world, a ST 7317 dropped in price to 2.67$ so I checked it over and bought one. I went to advance auto and scored 4 qts of Mobil Super 5000 for 3.17$ a qt, so couldnt complain bout that. Wally world near me or one I was just at; the Mobil Super 5000, in a 5qt jug was 12.99$ Yeah, my company has a ton of Group 7 oil filters, that are equivalent to AC PF 44, so I asked my boss about them since I have two friends near me that have cavaliers that use a pf 44, he said take all of them. Would you believe that there were 12 cases! Date of manufacture was 06-07' from looking at the filters. I now have 19 Group 7 oil filters that are V-4610, and plan to cut a new on open and then with some BITOG'ERS help post pics and let you folks decide. I did use purolator classics on a old cutlass ciera 2.5 4cyl and my 96' grand am with a quad 4, no problems.

have a great sunday folks and thanks for the info and help sayjac, and sayjac, my mother and stepfather live right near Lake Norman also.

You drove to AA to buy 4qt Mobil Super 5000 at $3.17/qt($12.68) while you can buy 5qt jug for $12.99 at WM, it cost you only $0.31 for an extra qt and without cost of gas driving to AA, why ?

Just buy any of the top mfgs filter and be happy. That is all that is needed. You will get rid of the car before you will see any advantage from an expensive filter. All you want is a name brand filter that if there is a problem the reputable MFG. of the filter will give you compensation for the filter causing engine damage.
