Looking at buying a new electric smooth top range soon. What brand do you feel is best? What should I stay away from? Wife wants black stainless.Going to be possibly be looking at side by side fridge in same finish too. l know my wife lol
Thank you

One caution on the black stainless. The color varies brand to brand so if you buy a brand X range and and brand Y fridge, they will not be the same shade of black stainless. Whether that matters to you or not, I wanted to make you aware of it.

I bought KitchenAid from Pacific I believe. The range was floor model so I saved a bunch.
Range, overhead microwave and washdisher. Been fine.
Wifey might want gas...

The last one I bought was Kenmore bought at a Sears retail location from an older salesman who probably works on commission. Good service and good price. Kenmore Elite is extra nice.

I saw a thread on here this week where the poster was complaining that the control board overheated and died. It was located on the back above the heating elements. Someone else suggested getting a stove where the controls were up front just below the elements, so less likely to overheat. I took a mental note...

If you are going to do this, go with INDUCTION! You will never regret it! Anytime you can boil a pot of water in under 60 seconds, while it's sitting on top of a towel is just amazing technology. The energy savings and safety CANNOT be beat!

Not sure how old you are, but my "forgetful" wife has left a burner on several times. ABSOLUTELY no harm done and NO possibility of a burn or a fire! For the sake of your future safety, I URGE you to spend the extra money for this technology.

I got the Frigidaire Gallery cooktop with convection oven and have never regretted that purchase. If I would have wanted one feature to be different, I would have had TWO large sized "burners" and two medium sized ones. It seems the burners are just a little bit small for most of my stainless steel pots and pans.

First thing to consider is induction or not. According to CR, conduction cooks a lot faster if you have the proper pot and range burner area is not hot once you remove pot (kids less likely to get burned).

I would read up on CR about the ratings.

I also believe I read that while stainless is stainless, when it comes to black stainless each manufacturer does it a little differently. But you will need to look at various manufacturers to verify.

I think black stainless may be a fad and would stick to regular stainless. By that is my opinion. I am by no means a house decorator.

I'll never get the touch pad controls again. No LG.

It seems GE and Whirlpool is the most reliable.

I like going with Best Buy for the free financing.

In our 2016 major reno, went black stainless Samsung stove, dishwasher, wall oven and 4 door fridge.
Still really like the black stainless look and the appliances are gorgeous but....

Not so happy about the quality of the Samsung appliances. Each one has had issues except the dishwasher.
Looking at Bosch for a future project.

^^Opinions and experiences like these are what we need.^^

We have the previously mentioned "up front in the cold" controls instead of electronics mounted in the rear splash of the stove where it's ALWAYS HOTTER.

Neighbors all over the place with burnt electronics. I swear, you see the repair guys often.

Not us.

We had a Samsung, a Whirlpool, and a GE all in about 15 months timeframe. The Samsung had problems immediately and went back same week. The Whirlpool was plagued with problems for several months involving poor temperature control of the oven. Finally got our money back and got the GE which has been fine. Whatever you get, buy the additional warranty/service plan.

Like everything else that depends on the wallet. Gaggenau is the very best by a long shot, Miele and Bosch are good also but not the quality of the Gaggenau.
