I'm having issues with my Costco Interstate battery and it's well within the 42 month replacement period. It's got that's powdery leak that's greenish white. I guess Costco tends to just take them in without worrying about testing them. I had not problem getting them to take an old Kirkland Signature battery back in 2010 when it was less than 2 years old and had the full warranty.

However, I'm looking at the warranty terms and they seem to exclude diesels with the exception of passenger cars/pickups. Is there something that diesels do to batteries or is this just another way of saying it's likely some sort of commercial vehicle?

If a passenger car battery is used in a commercial vehicle, diesel vehicle (not including passenger automobiles and pickups), truck with a carrying capacity of more than one ton, lawn tractor, snowmobile, recreational vehicle, golf cart, or marine vehicle, the limited warranty is reduced to a free-replacement period of six months and a pro rata limited warranty period of one half the indicated life for that battery. The same policy applies to golf cart and marine batteries that are used for commercial purposes even if the battery was made for that application.

Since it doesn't include passenger automobiles and pickups, I think they're just trying to exclude industrial and construction equipment.

Since Costco does not install the battery, they have no way of knowing what the vehicle is. Take it to Customer Service and relax.

I HIGHLY doubt anyone cares. If they ask, its for your moms car!

when i had to replace my costco battery they said take it to the tire shop. tire shop looked at my recieipt and date and gave me money back which i used to buy a new one. i doubt they will even care what it was used in. Easy returns is one of the reasons to buy at Costco.

Sounds like I need a Costco membership!

I hate fighting with battery warrantees - - it's never an easy battle.

Interesting post y_p_w as Costco batteries are uniformly praised here.

As said, just go to the desk. You got the bad one.

That's where I'll buy my next battery in the absence of some outstanding deal somewhere else.

Guess that would exclude only my F-450 from that list (which has had WM Everstart Maxx batteries since I've owned it)-I would think if you brought in the battery, they would have no way of knowing what it came from.

+1. This type of failure can be attributable to user error and/or faulty charging.

My wife bought a 2002 Ford p/u with a 7.3 diesel engine. Ever two years i would exchange the batteries at Costco because at two and a half years they like clock work would fail.
