Hi,

The folks at Tire Rack tell me balancing tires with EVERY
5000 mile tire rotation is a complete waste of money.

Any folks here do this??

I do, but only because Costco does it free since I bought my tires there.

If I had to pay for it? No way. Maybe once a year/when I feel the car shaking.

Thought I'd also add that Hyundai recommends a balance any time the wheel comes off. So it works for me.

BigBuck,

Can you show me where in states in Hyundai documentation that they recommend balancing with every rotation??

So, whenever you get a brake inspection, Hyundai recommends
balancing?? Come on!

I have balancing and rotate package for tire life,so yes every time, every 5000 to 10000 miles. Usually it costs $70, same as 2 separates procedures without package.

+1; have driven 65K on one set with no rebalance.

I have driven over a million miles with maybe 10 balances and less alignments. Most tires last me 50000+ , but i drive very easy. If the car has an accident or blow a tire , they get aligned or balanced. Sometimes a tire throws a weight. Usually if a tire goes bad it will shake. Belt separation. Time to replace instead of re-balance.
Big waste of money just like 3000 mile oil changes.
Big money maker for tire shop.

I like to balance the tire that are going in the front after rotation... keeps the shimmy away from the steering. So basicly once for 2 rotations cycles(or 10kmiles in my case) I do rotation here while swapping summer/winter tires.

That is a good compromise, and what I would do if I was paying for balancing everytime.

I think balancing is more of an as needed thing rather than something you need to do on a schedule. The only time I've had tires balanced is when I got them installed. I've never had any issues. Tire wear has been very even on all three of my trucks.
