I was of the impression that the spec for 0W/16 was going to vote and that no product will be available until year end or 2014 or is it on sale now.

officially nothing is thinner than 0w20 right now

but some 0w20 is much thinner than others.

If one does come out for street use it will be purely for BITOG entertainment by the oil manufacturer to see what the oil nuts on this site can debate about it.

Yes the non API RP XPR 0-10 is not any lighter than most 0W-20s due to it's low 140 VI.

Currently the lightest 0W-20 is Sustina (VI 229) followed I suspect by the Idemitsu made Mazda High Moly 0W-20 (VI 221).
When the new 0W/5W-16 grade becomes available it may not be any lighter than these two oils. The new grade can have a HTHSV as low as 2.3cP but need not, and the KV100 spec' can still as high as 8.2cSt.
There are plenty of 0W/5W-20 oils already on the market that could be relabeled as 16wt oils including the rather heavy RL 0W-20.

Quote "The new SAE 16 grade is expected to have minimum impact on the North American engine oil market, since it is being specified by only one automaker (Honda) for 2013 model year engines. Honda says tests show that its current design engines can gain fuel economy benefits and maintain adequate durability from oils with viscosity grades lower than SAE 0W-20."
