I don't have a sports hernia but I do have a lifting-a-bloody-heavy-FIDDI-concentrator-into-an-equipment-rack hernia (in my groin). Had surgery on company health insurance (otherwise it'd have been a very long wait on the NHS)
Two methods I researched - standard stitch up (very high failure rate) or nylon mesh insert (reinforces the scar tissue).
Got the latter at a specialist private clinic about 16 years ago. OK so far
