I want to mail a factory fill oil sample to blackstone has anyone had problems using the U.S. mail? Blackstone says it is ok but if there is another service for around the same price that you think would be better let me know...

Nothing is cheaper than US mail since you cen send it first class. Some POs will hem and haw or say no, but shipping oil is OK. I generally tell them it is motor oil and thus high flashpoint, low flammability, and it is double contained. They usually do the liquid stamp and send it along for $1.30 or something like that.

Only had a problem once using the plastic canister from Blackstone and went to a different post office - where they sent it without a question. A couple times they've asked me what was in it so I told them it was an oil sample.

I've had better shipping times when sending it in a box. Putting blackstone's round container in a box seems to get there faster. No idea why, but it is consistent for me.

I just sent a sample to Blackstone thru the USPS without any problem. I used the plastic bottle without a box.

I put it in a box. Don't tell the USPS workers anything by answering "NO" to all their questions. They just put the lable on and that's it. If you see the types of USPS workers we have here, the less complicated it is, the faster it goes along.

Round bottle in USPS takes about 15-21 days from Pacific NW. Small bottle in a bubble mailer takes 1-3 days.

This is what i have seen too. Takes like 2-3 days from Illinois in a box, takes 2 weeks in the round container.

It has puzzled me for awhile.

I know it's an old thread but I think it's important and here is another data point. I am going on 3 weeks now and my sample hasn't been received by ALS Tribology in Oregon. I sent it US Mail in the little cylindrical container. I can't think of any reason why these take so long in the mail other than they must have to hand process them, they tick the postal workers off snd postal workers figure they will get around to them when they get around to them. I was particularly interested in this one too because it was a ssample of the newer formulation of G-Oil that I had pushed out to 10,500 miles.

They ALMOST ALWAYS ask what's in it.

I say "Liquid, like it says on the bottle."

If they hassle me, I say "Do you ask everyone what's in their package??"

I was thinking about doing that as well. Amazon sells these little 6" boxes for something like $10 for 12 boxes.

If I gave that kind of response in NJ it would almost certainly turn into an argument and they would refuse to accept the package.

I also use the automated service, and put the canister in a small box. In my experience at the P.O. counter, each employee makes up their own rules about how used motor oil can be shipped.

Same here. I use a pop-tarts box to send it in.
