I'm getting ready for an oil change, and thought I would give the Ford Racing filter a whirl. I normally use the Motorcraft FL820s, but have ordered the Ford Racing CM-6731-FL820. I've read about them on this site, but wonder if any of you have actually used them.

In general racing filters have a higher flow rate but way less filtering. Not a big deal when your tearing down an engine every weekend. I wouldn't use on a daily driver.

That link is what sold me on the Ford Racing filter. According to that article, the Fleetguard has an inferior ADBV, and doesn't have the Ford recommended bypass valve location. I'm also going to be paying $8, not $12.95. I would like to find out more info about the media's filtering efficiency.

i been using the ford racing filters for some time now and i cut one open couple of weeks ago. they are high flow filter and filter 99%@20u..the newer ones have large flow holes on the flow tube inside when you look into it. they use to be the smaller holes.both motorcraft fl820s and the racing filters now have the larger holes..this filter is the nicest filter of all of the filters out there...i orderd these from the ford dealer down the street from me.and now the lincoln mercury dealer here stocks them all the time..

Good luck on finding that info. Study racing filters on Wix site (& others such as K&N) and I think you'll find as salvage wrote "have a higher flow rate but way less filtering". Makes sense...what's more likely to cause catastrophic failure; a more 10-20um particles or insufficient pressure/flow ? You could argue fine filtration is not what you want in racing.
